Dear Parents,
As the weather is starting to get cooler, please consider what your child is wearing for school as there are variable temperature differences between morning and afternoon and between outside in the wind and inside. We also know that some people (both adults and children) feel the cold more than others.
At Kindergarten we have separate temperature adjustable air-conditioners in all rooms.
On hot days, teachers adjust the room temperature to reduce the heat and the humidity,
On cooler days, teachers adjust room temperature to warmer (25C).
On very cold days, teachers will change the setting to heater to warm up the room.
On rainy days, the children put their shoes or rain boots in their cubby. If their socks, or any of their clothes are wet, we will change the children’s clothes.
We are also teaching the children to be independent and are also helping the children to know when they feel cold and when they feel too warm.
Inside Jacket
Children may bring an additional jacket, cardigan, thin sweater or vest to school. If a child feels cold, then they will wear this jacket. If they feel hot, they will take it off. During play time in the playground or in the Multi-purpose room (MPR) the children will usually take off extra layers because they are running around. The extra layers are then put back on when recess is over.
Jackets for wearing inside school should be school colors (Blue, white or red).
Sorry - pink, purple, green, grey or black are not school colors.
Outside Coats / windbreakers / rain jackets
The outside jacket your child wears to school, whether it is a thinner windbreaker / rain jacket or a warmer coat for cold days is taken off once they arrive and is hung on the hook in their cubby. These can then be put on to go home.
Outside jackets for wearing to come to school or for going home can be any color. These will be taken off by cubbies after arrival into school and will not be worn in the classrooms.
Please do not take winter coats off outside as the children will get cold. We will assist with zippers and buttons if needed especially during winter when coats get thicker and harder to fasten. We will also teach the children how to hang their coat on the hook in their cubby.
Please dress you child according to the weather:
Wear thin layers rather than one thick/warm jacket or sweater.
All clothes worn inside school should be school colors – red, white, blue or khaki, please also avoid large pictures / wording.
A child may be too hot with one thick layer but too cold if they take it off.
We are encouraging the children to be self-aware and independent and decide for themselves if they are too hot or cold (under guidance from the teacher).
Children can get very upset if teachers ask them to remove clothes because they are getting too hot but parents, grandparents or helpers have told them not to take off their jacket / layers in school.
Teachers will remind your child:
You can take off a layer if you get too hot
i.e. when playing in the playground, when the classroom heating is on.
You can put on a layer if you feel cold (i.e. after playtime)
Avoid thick undershirts that your child cannot easily take off
Children do get over heated easily if they wear thick clothes / many layers under their main clothes.
Please label everything with your child’s name.
ICS school jackets all look the same and your child may not remember which jacket is theirs!
Blessings

Please bring your donated shoeboxes to the Service Learning Office (Room 204) between Nov 17 and Dec 5.
Starting on October 24, R1s (as well as R2s) will bring home library books in their blue library book bag each Friday. Please read the guidelines for returning books.
Most importantly - please check all books and CDs / DVD are put back into the blue book bag and return it each Thursday. If a different adult is coming to pick up your child from school, please notify the Kindergarten Office giving us their full name, Hong Kong Identity card number and their telephone number.
All people coming to pick up your child must:
Be on the authorized list on PowerSchool i.e. a parent has given us permission to release their child to that person.
Bring the purple pick-up card (original card, photographs will not be accepted).
In absence of the pick-up card, for persons we do not recognize we will either - check their Hong Kong Identity Card or call the phone number you have given us.
If we are unsure of the identity of the person picking up your child, we will check their identity.
If the person is not listed on PowerSchool, and you have not informed us, we will call parents to confirm.
If your child usually takes the bus home and changes to being picked up from school, please notify us. Please ensure that the person coming to school is on our authorized list. If in doubt, please give us their name
If you change or employ a new Domestic Helper, please remove your previous helper or add a new helper to the pick-up contacts on PowerSchool.
Parents, be empowered and equipped with the knowledge and resources you need to support your child's growth and success. This page provides resources, and we hope to help parents navigate the challenges of parenting and support your child's overall well-being. Make sure to check out our parent page HERE!
If your child is sick, please keep your child at home to rest and recover and notify the school by completing the relevant e-collect form on PowerSchool of:
Your child’s absence / number of days your child is likely to be off school
Your child’s body temperature (please state actual temperature, not just “has a fever”)
Once recovering from a fever (38C or above), please let us know the day and time your child’s fever subsided without medication. If you do not specify a time, we will use the time from your email. We can then specify how soon your child may return to school (48 hours after fever subsided).
Your child’s symptoms (not just “unwell”).
If your child has Chickenpox, Hand Foot and Mouth or other notifiable disease - please send in a doctor’s note confirming diagnosis. We also require a doctor’s note stating that your child is fit to return to school.
Red Eyes—conjunctivitis can be very infectious. If your child has red eyes, please give us a doctor’s note stating that your child is not infectious before they can come to school.
Department of Health requirements state that if a child has a fever (38C or above), or repeated diarrhea they need to stay home for at least 48 hours after the symptoms have subsided (without medication).
Even though your child’s fever may have gone, a child may still have a runny nose or bad cough and are not fit to return to school. Please keep them at home to rest.
Please do not send your child to school if they are still taking medication following an illness. The medicine may make your child sleepy and they still need time to recover and rest at home.
If your child has recovered but still has a mild cough (not chesty or coughing up phlegm), they may return to school but should wear a face mask.
