Dear ICS Community,
As this school year is now in full swing, I have enjoyed watching our children learning their lessons and the daily routines that make that possible.
Schools, like most systems, operate on predictable patterns and rhythms. Each year feels both familiar and new as we encounter similar curricula, events, and holidays. However, the people within these systems grow and change based on their experiences and lessons from the previous year. At ICS, our goal is to continually improve how we fulfil our school mission and serve our students in the best possible way. As August comes to an end—with orientation, Back to School Night, and Photo Day behind us—our teachers are fully engaged in the learning ahead.
Keeping with the idea of learning from our past to inform our future, you may hear the term “classical” in the school’s communications regarding curriculum and instruction this year. In education, “classical” refers to methods that have proven effective over time and continue to support learning. It’s important to distinguish this from “antiquated,” which means something is old and no longer useful in today’s world. This year, our teachers and administration will focus on a straightforward but powerful instruction and feedback loop that includes: explicit/direct instruction, modelling, guided and individual student practice, and assessment with feedback. These elements are elements of a teacher-directed classroom, where students are encouraged to engage and contribute through engagement in class discussions, assignment completion, and assessment.
While a teacher-directed classroom might seem outdated to some, I believe you will agree that skills often called “21st-century” skills—like critical thinking, citizenship, growth mindset, communication, creativity, and collaboration—are not new. They are rooted in classical approaches to learning, emphasizing logic, character, civic responsibility & piety, flexibility, perseverance, and excellence in communication and collaboration.
Some today may even view the Bible and a biblical worldview as outdated and irrelevant to modern life. However, at ICS, we see God’s word as timeless and central to learning and well-being. Aligning our understanding of reality with the creator of all things is sensible and wise, regardless of societal changes. Growing in this wisdom involves attitudes and understandings that lead to right living. Through the school curriculum, students learn to read, calculate, think critically, communicate, sing, create, and explore the natural and social world. Our aim, in addition to academic growth, is to anchor our students in timeless truth and develop godly character that will serve them well in life. This, I believe, is the essence of a classical Christian education.
Blessings,

Hi Parents, As our neighbors at Wong Kam Fai School begin their term on Monday, September 1, please expect much heavier traffic on On Muk Lane and On Muk Street.
To ensure a safe and smooth drop-off and pick-up for everyone, please be reminded:
No Stopping: Do not park or stop in the "Keep Clear" zones outside ICS or the neighboring school.
Drop-Off Only: The designated area is for quick drop-offs only. Parking is strictly prohibited ("No Waiting").
Stay in Your Car: Please do not get out of your vehicle at the entry/exit points, as this blocks buses and other cars.
Turn Left on Exit: After morning drop-off, please turn left when leaving the car park to keep traffic flowing.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our community safe.

The ICS family is poised for a special evening on September 26, 2025, as we come together at the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra's National Day Concert. This event represents a meaningful step forward in strengthening connections across our entire community, all while supporting the incredible achievements of our alumnus, Elliot Leung (Class of 2013).
Elliot’s journey from our school halls to the world’s most prestigious stages serves as a profound inspiration. His accolades include:
🏆 Youngest-ever recipient of the Huabiao Award
🎻 Works performed by the New York Philharmonic and Shanghai Symphony Orchestra
🌍 Acclaimed performances from Berlin Philharmonie to Lincoln Center
It is no surprise that the response has been overwhelmingly positive, with nearly a hundred tickets reserved (all tickets are sold). This strong turnout—comprising current students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni—is a powerful testament to our commitment to being a connected, multi-generational family.
We are especially grateful to Elliot and the organizers for the exclusive discount and complimentary tickets. This generous gesture ensured the celebration was accessible to all, perfectly aligning with our goal to inspire current students by showcasing alumni excellence.
This is more than a concert; it's the beginning of a new tradition. We look forward to filling the hall with Warrior spirit.
