Dear Parents,
Fridays are my favorite day of the week, not because it is the end of the week, but because I get to spend more time directly with the children. Not only do I read stories, but I lead the worship time called Chapel. Each division of ICS has a weekly Chapel, and for Kindergarten that means on Friday we have 2 Chapels! One Chapel for the morning classes at 8:20am and a repeat Chapel for the afternoon classes at 12:20pm. You may have heard your child talking about Chapel or maybe you have seen videos or photos on Seesaw. Chapel is a time when all four classes and teachers come together for a time of worship, pray and learning about God.
We always start with a pray to ask God to be with us and then share a worship song together. We usually sing a song for a few weeks so that the children become familiar with the words and the actions. We also invite a few children to come to the front to help lead the actions. For the 2025-26 school year, our theme for Chapel is “Questions about God” we are asking questions such as “Does God have a phone number?” to teach about how we communicate with God through prayer. Or “How does God hear us when it is noisy?” or this week we will talk about “How big is God’s love?” to help the children understand about how much God loves them. After a short message we finish with a second worship song that is linked with that day’s message and then we end with a prayer to thank God.
The children are now familiar with the routine and are enjoying Chapel. Therefore, we are starting to invite parents to join us. Parents can join in our worship and we encourage you to do the actions to the songs too and to hear the message. Please note, we ask parents not to video or take photographs or move around either before, after or during chapel as it is a time of worship. We add two rows of chairs (18 chairs) at the back of the multi-purpose room (MPR), so parents will sit behind the 4 classes and will not be able to individually talk to their own child. I usually ask the children to turn around and wave hello to the parents. At the end of Chapel, I ask parents to leave the MPR and then the teachers will lead their class back to the classrooms or playground.
As we have limited space, we will send out a signup sheet on the Monday evenings (at 7pm) for that week’s Chapel. If you are one of the 4 library volunteers for that week, you are automatically invited to Chapel, and you don’t need to apply. We have usually more parents wanting to join us than we have space, so we will alternate between R2 and R1 parents according to the schedule below.

Starting on October 24, R1s (as well as R2s) will bring home library books in their blue library book bag each Friday. Please read the guidelines for returning books.
Most importantly - please check all books and CDs / DVD are put back into the blue book bag and return it each Thursday. There will be boxes near the door for the R1 children to put their bag into on arrival. R2s will have book boxes near their cubbies. Returning books on time helps our parent volunteers arrange a new set of books for each child.
Happy reading!
If a different adult is coming to pick up your child from school, please notify the Kindergarten Office giving us their full name, Hong Kong Identity card number and their telephone number.
All people coming to pick up your child must:
Be on the authorized list on PowerSchool i.e. a parent has given us permission to release their child to that person.
Bring the purple pick-up card (original card, photographs will not be accepted).
In absence of the pick-up card, for persons we do not recognize we will either - check their Hong Kong Identity Card or call the phone number you have given us.
If we are unsure of the identity of the person picking up your child, we will check their identity.
If the person is not listed on PowerSchool, and you have not informed us, we will call parents to confirm.
If your child usually takes the bus home and changes to being picked up from school, please notify us. Please ensure that the person coming to school is on our authorized list. If in doubt, please give us their name
If you change or employ a new Domestic Helper, please remove your previous helper or add a new helper to the pick-up contacts on PowerSchool.
If your child is sick, please keep your child at home to rest and recover and notify the school by completing the relevant e-collect form on PowerSchool of:
Your child’s absence / number of days your child is likely to be off school
Your child’s body temperature (please state actual temperature, not just “has a fever”)
Once recovering from a fever (38C or above), please let us know the day and time your child’s fever subsided without medication. If you do not specify a time, we will use the time from your email. We can then specify how soon your child may return to school (48 hours after fever subsided).
Your child’s symptoms (not just “unwell”).
If your child has Chickenpox, Hand Foot and Mouth or other notifiable disease - please send in a doctor’s note confirming diagnosis. We also require a doctor’s note stating that your child is fit to return to school.
Red Eyes—conjunctivitis can be very infectious. If your child has red eyes, please give us a doctor’s note stating that your child is not infectious before they can come to school.
Department of Health requirements state that if a child has a fever (38C or above), or repeated diarrhea they need to stay home for at least 48 hours after the symptoms have subsided (without medication).
Even though your child’s fever may have gone, a child may still have a runny nose or bad cough and are not fit to return to school. Please keep them at home to rest.
Please do not send your child to school if they are still taking medication following an illness. The medicine may make your child sleepy and they still need time to recover and rest at home.
If your child has recovered but still has a mild cough (not chesty or coughing up phlegm), they may return to school but should wear a face mask.
