Reimage macOS Device

Pre-requisite 

• Internet Connection

Estimated Time: 1–2 Hours

Completion time may vary depending on internet speed and the macOS version being installed. A slower or unstable internet connection may increase the time required to download and install macOS.

Step 1 — Start macOS Recovery 

• Shut down the Mac. 

• Press and hold the Power button until startup options appear. 

• Select Options, then click Continue. 

Step 2 — Open Disk Utility 

• Select Disk Utility from the Recovery utilities. 

• Click Continue. 

Step 3 — Select Macintosh HD 

• Under Internal, locate Macintosh HD. 

• Select Macintosh HD. 

• Do not select an external drive or disk image.

Step 4 — Erase Macintosh HD 

• Click Erase. 

• Set the name to Macintosh HD. 

• Set the format to APFS. 

• If Erase Volume Group appears, select it.

Step 5 — Confirm the Erase 

• If prompted, confirm that you want to erase the Mac. 

• Select Erase Mac and Restart when that option appears. 

• Allow the Mac to restart. 

Step 6 — Activate the Mac 

• Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection. 

• Follow the on-screen instructions. 

• Wait for activation to complete. 

• Return to Recovery Utilities when prompted.

Step 7 — Reinstall macOS 

• From Recovery Utilities, select Reinstall macOS. 

• Click Continue. 

• Follow the on-screen instructions and accept the license agreement when prompted. 

Step 8 — Select the Installation Disk 

• When asked where to install macOS, select Macintosh HD. 

• Click Continue. 

• Keep the Mac connected to power and the internet.

Step 9 — Stop at Setup Assistant 

• Wait for macOS installation to finish. 

• The Mac should start the Setup Assistant. 

• For a deployment/reimage workflow, do not complete the personal setup. 

• Leave the Mac at the required OOBE / Setup Assistant screen.
