In the newsletter this term I will be sharing some of our thinking around our new vision and today I’ll unpack the third of the trinity of words...Create.
As a staff we considered what this rich word could mean for us, and we came up with:
Create
Application of knowledge
Taking action
Purposeful
New/different/unique/innovative
To have passion
We thought this happens in a number of ways at DPS, through:
Our play and making environment...this is massive
Having resource rich classrooms (LEGO, robotics, cardboard, hot glue…)
Choir and Kapa Haka
Strong visual art teaching
Being a Green-Gold Sustainable School
By having Create as one of our trinity words, we are deeply valuing the idea that we want children to not only have knowledge, but to be capable enough to ‘do something’ with that knowledge. In this future they are growing into, ‘knowing stuff’ is no longer enough...and ‘Create’ honours this and gives further direction for us to follow.
Massive thanks to Kellas and the Makoura students for coming over yesterday to provide some Ki o Rahi training. Great seeing tuakana-teina learning in action, and our kids came away buzzing.
Big event tomorrow for us and all the Wairarapa schools. A special programme has been organised for the region's children with more than 4500 students expected to attend. We look forward to an amazing experience, to some amazing learning and to the memories being built. Thanks to Sophie Macdonald for leading the organisation for DPS, and to our parent volunteers. Info has come out via HERO with all the details of the event. Please note there will be no Celebration Time tomorrow.
Just a reminder that HERO is our main communication tool. All information around school events will be pushed out via the app, and we have used it already this year for Sports info, Wings over Wairarapa info and to push out about the return to COVID Alert Level 2. Please let us know if you are having trouble with HERO and we can help you out.
