As Rosie gets closer to baby Puddy arriving, we have some changes coming in Kōwhai.
Rosie will finish her full time role at the end of this week, but will be with us until the end of term. She will be releasing Amy Williams in Kahikatea 2 days a week for Amy’s Kāhui Ako role.
Amanda Mitchell will start next week full time in Kōwhai and will carry on for the rest of this year. Amanda has vast experience at that level and led Kōwhai as Team Leader for many years.
We have appointed Megan Fraser to the Kōwhai Team Leader position and she will start this in 2021. From next term, Megan will join us on the school Leadership Team, and we look forward to having her voice as part of that.
We are truly lucky here at DPS to have such an awesome staff, super high quality...and just amazing people to go along with that.
The shift to Alert Level 1 meant we got to have a whole school Celebration Time last week (first time in over 3 months!) and we got to welcome our new students and whānau into our school community. This termly event has evolved over the last few years into a very special occasion for our new people and we get some lovely positive feedback from those involved.
Earlier in the week, as part of our re-visioning work, the staff had discussed what we thought was important at our school, and the idea of relationships, connection/collaboration and individual strength came up. As part of my welcome I used this whakatauki:
Ehara taku toa i te toa takitahi
He toa takatini.
My strength is not as an individual
But as a collective
We are a school that favours collaboration...it is one of our Core Beliefs, it is why we have open/flexible learning environments, and it is why we team teach...individually we have many strengths, but collectively we can do great things.
Welcome again to our new people, we look forward to getting to know you...and together you make us stronger.
The winter sport season is getting closer! Football (through the clubs) is underway and our school sport teams for Netball and Hockey will be sorted soon. Notices have gone out, reminders on our daily notices and through our school facebook page. Forms due back this Friday (tomorrow!).
When: Friday 26th June
If pupils choose to wear mufti, they pay a gold coin on the day to their home class teacher.
The Councillors will also be selling ice-blocks at lunchtime for $1 each
My new Wolf Onsie
I got a new onesie, yay!!!
It is a wolf and my brother got a new onesie too and his is a bunny. And it is a really good onesie. It is so fluffy and soft.
My one shows its sharp teeth and the ears stick up and kinda look like a real live wolf. By Haylee
A description
The small, tattered, stinky grey animal smelt the old gross, blue cheese as he slowly scampered across the dirty puddles. As he scampered along the broken sidewalk trying not to get spotted so he wouldn’t get “ewwed” by all the people.
As he skips along the road, his long, wrinkly, pink, wet and gross tail drags through the dirty puddles. Trying to get across the roads without getting turned into roadkill.
He is very smart and believe it or not he can ride a motorcycle but… sometimes he is selfish and greedy.
He lives in an old stinky boot owned by a girl from Snead Elementary School. That’s where his tall scary human friend Ryan goes to school.

Tyler gave me chrystals. They are very cool. It comes in green and orange and black and white. They are circles and a square and a diamond and a giant square. They are seethrough and they reflect from the sun. By Jacob
