A growing thread of our learning here at DPS is around service, giving back to others and to our community. Our Service Day a few weeks ago highlighted the power of this. We have also had a huge focus on kindness, being kind to all.
Two quick stories to illustrate this;
Her daughter “had somehow gotten her knee stuck in the fence and Maddison D applied some quick thinking to help her get free. It was really nice to see a bigger kid go out of her way to help”.
Great kindness and critical thinking shown by one of our awesome DPS Kids!
Two weeks running now we have had children out to Mt Holdsworth for the day. The Rata and Rimu teams both enjoyed lovely weather, great company and the children got to take part in a range of experiences.
These events are possible due to our tireless FODPS team. Each year they donate $1000 to each teaching team to help get kids out on EOTC experiences, to give children opportunities to do things they otherwise might not. The learning that comes from these is rich...as the photos of the Mt Holdsworth trips show...children challenging themselves, working together, learning in and for our environment. I attended the latest FODPS meeting to think ahead to 2020. It was great to hear their successes this year, their challenges and the positivity going forward. The team are always after more parental involvement...and it is a great way to give service, to give back to the school and our great DPS Kids.
Pleased to announce a couple of things here;
Firstly, Rosie Puddy will be the new Kōwhai Team Leader for 2020. Rosie has been a member of the DPS whānau for 8 years now and has held various leadership positions in that time (like her current PRIDE leadership role). She is up for the challenge, and I look forward to working in a leadership capacity with Rosie across 2020.
Secondly, we have appointed two new teachers for 2020
Work on Homeclass lists is currently underway and, as always, you will know your child's Homeclass teacher for 2020 at the end of this school year.
DPS has been like our second home and many of us started school right here in the Rimu syndicate. We will miss so much about this awesome school
What will we miss...
Our best memories are…
It's that time of year again!
Most children have a learning conversation this term - but if you are not sure check with their home class teacher.
If you cannot book online you can also get a paper copy of the booking sheet from the office or talk to your child's home class teacher.
At the office (please ensure your child's name is on the envelope!)
Or order online.

REAP supports a Masterton based playgroup for all Pasifika whānau. It is called Moana Playgroup and was established in 2016 to enable Pacific Island families, with their pre-schoolers, to come together and celebrate their unique languages and cultures.
It takes place on Mondays and Tuesdays 10.00am-12.00pm at The Spot, 365 Queen Street, Masterton and is supported by Fale Lio.
The playgroup promotes: Early Childhood Education and participation, Pacific Languages and cultures, healthy eating and living for whānau.
Then come along to Kids' Club, 5.30 till 7.30pm on Fridays at the Baptist Church. We provide a safe, family atmosphere with table tennis, computer games, craft, a kid-friendly light tea, Bible stories and organised games. The cost is just $2.50 per child. Phone Liz on 027 2233100 for more details or just come along and have a look. We're on the corner of Renall and Chapel Streets; entrance off Renall St.
