Our Vision: Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future

An amazing bit of news to start the term off:

We had TVNZ here on Tuesday filming the school for their ‘Good Sorts’ segment! We have been using the TVNZ ‘Good Sorts’ clips for years now…each week our whānau classes watch one on a Friday, and have a discussion/activity around what ‘service’ is, what being a good citizen looks like, how people can make a difference for others and the power of community…all aspects of our school vision for learning. These clips/discussions lead into our Service Days (like at the end of last term) where the whānau classes give back to their community in a variety of ways. Haydn Jones was super impressed while he was in…loved what the school was up to, thought our children were incredible…and we took the opportunity to launch our new ‘Good Sorts Service Tickets’ where staff are catching the kids doing acts of service for others, giving them a ticket and each week we will pull one out of the box to celebrate in front of the school. Here is Haydn giving a ‘Good Sorts Service Ticket’ to Charlotte…Charlotte made him a cup of tea after he had been here filming for several hours. Ka pai Charlotte, and thanks for coming Hadyn!

So…what an incredible start to the term! Another awesome example of us striving towards our school vision…particularly the ‘Together we’, ‘Nurture’ and ‘Better Future’ parts. You can be very proud of your children and your school…the path we are on is super positive, and is being recognised for being powerful for kids.

Board of Trustees Update

Our mid-term election cycle has just finished, and I’m pleased to announce that Adam Hall (current presiding member) has been re-elected to the Board. We will be joined by Simon Watts, who is new to the Board. Well done to both of you and many thanks for putting your hands up to govern our wonderful school.

Building Progress

Massive amount of work done over the break

The roofers had a bad run of weather over the holidays, but have made a great start. The roof over Rātā and Kahikatea has been completed, and they are currently working above the new office. They also have replaced all of the clear verandah roofing along the Rātā and Kahikatea decks.

The acoustic ceiling panels (going into parts of Rimu and Kōwhai) aren’t here yet…but will be soon.

So…all in all, a great result. We still can expect some disruption as the rest of the roofing work progresses, and the acoustic ceilings get installed.

Well Done Elise!

Elise is one of our awesome ex-DPS Kids, and has picked up a role writing book reviews for Hedleys Books in town. Elise always had a passion for the written word, even writing a chapter book while here at Douglas Park. Hedleys is an amazing local business, well worth supporting, and Elise is now a ‘Reading Ambassador’ - able to share her love of reading with others. Check out one of her reviews here, and head into Hedleys to check out all their great deals on childrens books!

Order Subway online or at the office for delivery to school friday

Every Friday we have Subway lunches delivered to school.  If you would like to order your child a subway lunch, the easiest way is to order online.  Please make sure you put your child's class (teachers name) on the order as it makes it much easier to sort our end.  Subway can also be ordered by filling out a form at the school office before school on a Friday.  Please note that these must be ordered by early morning on the Friday to ensure your child's order goes through for that day.

Please note that the app you are looking for is Subway Express - School Lunch programme.
