Last night, along with Kate McGovern, Taine and Alexi, I attended the annual Times Age sports awards. We were nominated and made the finals for Junior Team of the Year (Our DPS Rippa Team going to the National Finals two years running) and for Primary School of the Year. We value sport at Douglas Park not only for the pathway to success for students, but also for the skills and relationships developed along the way. I’m proud to say that we won Primary School of the Year! A massive achievement and recognition of the hard work put in.
The new Board for Douglas Park School had its first meeting last night. Brett Cockeram and Trudy Sears from the previous BoT came along to share their words of advice, much appreciated. Our new Board members are:
While there is a lot of new learning for the team we are excited and up for the challenge of leading DPS into the future!
Douglas Park has been selected for an exciting trial by Genesis Energy. We are now part of a ‘virtual power plant’, a scheme where power from our SchoolGen solar panels is stored onsite in a battery, and Genesis are able to draw on this storage during times of high demand for power (early evening for example). Ata Rangi Vineyard and 3 residential houses are part of the trial, a first for New Zealand. For us this means a total replacement of our exisiting solar panel and the installation of a battery pack. Once the trial is finished we own the new gear...an amazing deal.
I attended the launch of the project this week, the Genesis CEO spoke about the potential for the concept and the Environmental benefits that the idea could bring if scaled up to include 1000’s of homes and businesses.
Another feather in our Green Gold bow...
This Friday DPS gives back again. It is a belief here at school that our job in education is to help develop awesome young citizens (DPS Kid), and by doing that help develop an awesome community. An awesome citizen is a person who gives, someone prepared to do something for others, a person who understands that when we stand together we are stronger. I look forward to seeing the kids disappear out to take on their actions...planting natives, making coffee, making and giving books to local kindergartens, visiting the Police and Fire Services with gifts and thank you cards and much more. Great job team, proud of what you are doing!
Our whānau classes will be out and about in the community on Friday 21st June.
We have some awesome service activities planned!
PLEASE NOTE RIMU
If you also have students in Rimu, their class and individual photos will be taken later on in the year. You can still have your family photo taken now.
