Lost Property!

The bane of every parent and every teacher…lost property! We try very hard as a school to keep on top of the lost property, and have some good systems. Items found in the class, or just outside of classrooms tend to go back into that space…and each teaching team has a little collection area where it sits until the owner collects it. Things that are found away from the rooms (the field, playground, turf, wheels area, footpath etc) tend to be taken into the office. Where the uniform is named clearly we are pretty good at returning to the owners…the office staff go through the findings from the day, and label them to go back to class.

Where items aren’t named…this is much, much harder. A size 10 polar fleece is identical to the next size 10 polar fleece when unnamed. These unnamed items we hold onto…and over time often get them back to the right owner. There are lots of great ways to label uniforms, with lots of items now using those iron on labels…but often a simple Vivid with the child's name written large on the inside of the uniform works just as well.

Items of clothing (or shoes, water bottles) that aren’t uniform go to the lost property rack. Very rarely do these find their way back to the owner and over time the rack fills up. Tomorrow we will put the lost property rack out to allow whānau to collect what is theirs, and then the remainder will go to charity.

Learning Conversations

These are fast approaching, Wednesday 21st September and Thursday 22nd. Normally we hold these in the final week of term, but with a bunch of staff and students away at camp we brought it forward a few days. Bookings will be online as usual, and a paper notice will come home next week.

The Conversations are an important part of how we operate as a school, and a way of bringing our curriculum to the surface for whānau to see. You’ll hear from your child about their rich learning, their making & creating, their play, their Core Beliefs, their PRIDE values in action, seeing some writing/reading/math as well as having the opportunity to chat with their teacher about academic progress. The children are always so proud to share with whānau about themselves and their wonderful learning, such a positive time together.

Keep an eye out for the booking information on Facebook, HERO and the notice next week.

Board of Trustees

Following the Board election earlier this term we had a casual vacancy after 2 nominations for 3 spaces. The Board opted to fill this position by selection, and gave 28 days notice of this. The 28 days have passed so I’m happy to be able to say that Anita Parker will be joining the team. Our Board going forward is comprised of:

  • Adam Hall

  • Carrie White

  • Anita Crocker

  • Nadine Allen

  • Anita Parker

  • Helen Gard’ner (Staff Trustee)

  • and myself as Principal

The new Board will have their first meeting next week and I’m looking forward to working with them.
