Welcome back everyone, welcome to the 2021 school year! It was awesome yesterday seeing all the children and parents flood back into the school...smiling faces, laughter, excited stories being told and the energy of people, (children and adults), reconnecting after some time apart. The pool is up and running, the first classes were in yesterday just after 9am and all of our DPS Kids had the opportunity for a swim yesterday in the heat.
Staff have been working hard to prepare for the new year, and we had our annual 2 day retreat last week as a team, focussing on building relationships, educational coaching and bringing our new school vision to life.
We’ve welcomed 5 new staff this year, and look forward to learning alongside them:
Kōwhai: Josh Fielding
Rātā: Josephine Pinfold
Kahikatea: Josh Vergunst and Sarah Broughton
And also Erena McCann who is our new Learning Support Coordinator
We also welcome a few new babies to our DPS whānau:
Amanda Mitchell had a baby boy...Arlo
Sam Dowsett also had a baby boy...also called Arlo
And Martha Brienza had a baby girl...Emily
Look forward to meeting them all!
Together we Nurture, Explore & Create for a Better Future
We are excited about our new vision for DPS, the direction that it will guide us in. I spoke at the end of last year about the trinity of words..Nurture, Explore, Create...and how rich these words are. At our staff retreat we spent time digging deeper into the meanings, and connecting back with what we already do at DPS. A very heartening exercise. In the newsletter over the term I will share back with you this work, clarifying how Nurture, Explore, Create will come to life at school.
You’ve probably noticed that the school looks a bit different this year. The exterior of all the buildings are being repainted this term. The main block has been finished, and the contractors are onto the Hall at the moment. Across the term they will work on the outlying buildings (Hall, ex-Dental Clinic, SWIS office and library) with work on the east wing of the school happening in the term 1 holidays.
The painters are doing a great job, and the main building looks awesome!
We’ve been getting a lot of positive feedback about HERO, about how great it is for information and communication. We’ve also heard of some work on’s and will pass that information onto the developers. If you haven’t yet got sorted with HERO...this link will take you to a help sheet to get going. Virtually all of our information is being distributed this way now.
When you log into the app, Community Notices is the first thing you will see. You will only see notices that are relevant to your child/ren. i.e. Class, Team, Year or Sporting Activity. If the text is long, you may need to click ‘read more’ to view the whole message.
In the top left is the Menu icon (3 lines). When you tap on this you will see your child/ren, and once you tap on them you will see their Learning Conversation 2021 Report (this will build and develop over time), and also any posts directly about them. You’ll see in the screenshot that Henry has one post in Rimu about him (this only shows when a post has been made).
Parents receive ONE form of notification when a Community Notice is published. If they log into the Hero mobile app they will receive an in-app notification. If they log into Hero via a web browser they will receive an email notification.
If you can’t login to the Hero app at any stage due to a technical issue, remember you can also access Hero via this website link:
https://our.linc-ed.com/ and please let us know if you require any help or support, we are happy to do so.
We're excited for another busy term of sports! All sign ups are to be completed using a google form, the link can be found in Hero! These need to be completed before Wednesday 17th February. No late registrations can be accepted. If there is a cost this must be paid by Friday 26th February.
