Our Vision: Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future

A lovely example of our vision in action last week with our Service Day. On a Friday, children spend 45 minutes in whānau classes. These are mixed year level classes based on the tuakana-teina idea of big buddy/little buddy. Each week these classes spend some time discussing citizenship, and they watch a ‘Good Sorts’ clip. Part of what we want from our DPS Kids is for them to develop the idea of giving back, of doing something for others...the idea of service. COVID kinda wrecked the idea of heading too far off site for Service Day, but the children spent time on Friday doing deeds for others. They washed staff cars, spread bark on the playground, decorated masks for the vaccination centre, wrote cards and made gifts for our school neighbours.

Budding Car Builders!

Luka and Constantine have been busy...working away tirelessly at engineering a car! Functioning door, windscreen...and aerodynamic properties eerily similar to my own beloved Landrovers! Great work lads, a lot of perseverance has gone into this.

COVID Info

Just as an update following the last two newsletters...we are still working through what our Final Celebration Time will look like, but I will confirm now that it will not be as it has in the past. The school will still do its normal thing...class awards, special awards etc...but it won’t be open to all friends and family to attend.

Latest vaccine data for our region below...91% first dose now! Over 2000 doses given over the last 7 days (nearly 900 of those were first doses). I would urge those of you who have not yet had your first dose to head to the Book my Vaccine website and nab a time. If you are still looking for information I would also encourage you to get the information from those that know...head to your GP for firsthand medical advice/information, or head over to the Ministry of Health website and look through the wealth of information there.

If I can be of help in any way...please reach out to me: principal@douglaspark.school.nz.

'BOB GOT A BARBIE'

(only 6 places available)

It’s Christmas morning and children all over the world are opening their presents.

But wait... something is dreadfully wrong!

Bob's got a Barbie and Beth's got a soldier, and what’s more, these toys can actually talk and they are not happy!

How could this terrible mix-up have happened and who could be to blame? Could it be the mail room elves, perhaps it’s the toy maker elves, maybe Ollie in logistics finally got it wrong, or maybe Blitzen and his rebel reindeer have been up to their old tricks again?

If you love Christmas and a Good Comedy you will love this Christmas fantasy.

Tuesday 25th to Friday 28th January 2022

'A CASE TO ANSWER'

(only 10 places available)

Minty & Monty, two mice, live in Fran & Fritz’s toy shop with Tick & Tock, two clocks that never stop arguing.

One day a very obnoxious boy named Romus, steals a toy soldier from the toy shop. Minty & Monty agree to help Soldier’s friends, Tracker, Ballerina, Clown, Robot, Train & Rag Doll, to rescue him.

But they haven't counted upon TC, BC & AKA, 3 very wicked cats. How on the earth are they going to rescue Toy Soldier and stop TC, BC & AKA from catching Minty and Monty. What plan do they have to teach Romas that stealing is not a very nice thing to do?

Perhaps a toy court is the answer with Tick & Tock as Judge and Defence Council.

But, will Tick & Tock stop arguing long enough to come to a decision and will they find Romus guilty or innocent?
