Massive event here at DPS today, the first kids run conference in the Wairarapa. Connect, Inspire, Learn came from a visit last year when I went to Ngatea Primary. They have been running one for years and it is a highlight of the school calendar for the local schools there. This is the first go, but already it looks amazing...our DPS Kids have been busy preparing themselves to be helpers, learners and presenters. Massive opportunity for those involved, to present and teach to others is a real sign of Student Agency...one of our Core Beliefs. As I type, the first of the 200+ kids are arriving...planks of wood, bags of ingredients, boxes of laptops...it is going to be a great day. We will capture and post photos across the day.
Next year will be a change of pace for Amanda Mitchell, as she steps down from her team leader position, and her full time role at school. Amanda will still be teaching at DPS but in a part time capacity next year.
Beverley du Preez, who joined us as a roll growth teacher in Rimu last term, has secured a permanent position at Lakeview for 2020. We wish her all the very best, and know it is an exciting time for her...able to apply for residency in NZ!
A big thank you for supporting the bake sale yesterday. Thanks to our generous Rata parent community for the amazing food provided...amazing the quality and quantity. Thanks to those who sent their children along with some $$$ to support the team. We appreciate it a lot, these team fundraisers allow teams to purchase extra equipment, or subsidise activities here at school. All of it goes back to improving things for our DPS Kids. Cheers team, for the setup and work, well done on a great event.
A new season is about to get underway...and once again DPS is providing a heap of teams for the local competitions. We won the Primary School of the Year in the Annual Sports Awards and we do provide a heap of opportunity for our kids. 6 touch teams, 4 tee-ball teams, 3 hockey teams, 3 mod-softball teams and an intermediate softball team...17 teams provided by DPS. Sport is an excellent way to develop our Core Beliefs, to develop friendships and relationships, to develop skills and to have an awesome time. As the season starts, I’d like to thank my staff for providing these opportunities...this is above and beyond what teachers/staff are paid to do and isn’t the norm in NZ schools. I think it is amazing...and I look forward to coaching my softball team to glory this season, improving on our 3rd place from Term 1...go team!
