Our Vision: Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future
Part of striving towards creating a ‘Better Future’ is the way we look to instill the ideal of service in our children. We want children to leave us knowing that giving back, helping others, that doing something for someone else (and not expecting anything in return) is ‘normal’.
One awesome example of this is our tireless road patrollers. These Year 6 legends are out there…before school, after school…rain, shine, gales! They’ve had a rough ride this year with the weather…but Mr Harkness tells me they have been an amazing bunch. Yesterday they got to go to the pools with the Wairarapa Road Safety Council as a reward for their efforts…but across the year, the reward is the ‘thank you’ they get from parents and children that they help cross the road safely. Awesome example of service in action! Oden was our ‘road patroller of the year’ for 2023…great stuff Oden!
Staff News
A bit of staff news to share…both happy and sad as we head towards the end of the school year:
Brooke: We congratulate Brooke for becoming a fully certified teacher! Each new teacher that starts in the profession has to undergo a two year advice and guidance programme to move from beginning Provisionally Certified, to Fully Certified…and Brooke has smashed this. Well done Brooke
Kiri: Amazing news for Kiri and Rowan as they prepare to welcome their first baby! Kiri will start her maternity leave at the beginning of next year…and we look forward to meeting the new addition to the DPS whānau!
We have some staff finishing with us, and heading to the Secondary School sector. Josh Fielding finishes after 3 years here at DPS…an amazing practitioner, and an absolute gem in Kōwhai. Hannah Choat heads to the south island to a college after 7 years here at DPS…leaving on a high after taking us to a successful renewal of our Green-Gold School status, and leading us to become a certified Carbon Zero school! James Riley is heading to Solway College after 13 years here at DPS…James has left many marks here at DPS, but notably his legacy will be how he has transformed our teaching of mathematics across the school. He has had many educators from within and without the region come to view him in action teaching in the class, and to see the power of the way he teaches maths. We wish Josh F, Hannah and James all the best as they shift to the secondary school sector.
Josh V has decided to shift to part time teaching in order to have more time with his young (and growing) family. Josh has picked up a position at Carterton School for 2024. All the best Josh!
We have been working through the staffing process, and have appointed 3 new teachers:
Maya Champion comes to us from Maeroa Intermediate. Maya is actually an ex-DPS Kid, attending school here from 2005-2008…so a full circle journey for her!
Rebecca Gasparini comes to us from St Claudine Thevenet School in Wainuiomata. Her partner has family in the Wairarapa, and they are both excited to be shifting over this side of the hill
Ginny Hawke comes to us from Paraparaumu Beach School over the other coast. Ginny has taught in the Wairarapa before working at both Alfredton, and Fernridge Schools.
We still have one further teacher to appoint, and we will let you know once this process has been completed. We have started the class lists for 2024, but these will be completed and confirmed once we appoint our last teacher.
EOTC - Thanks!
I just want to say thanks again to our awesome parents…we’ve got a lot of trips and events going on at the moment, and we are ever grateful for you guys that are able to give up some of your time to come along. Trips to Hidden lakes, to Castlepoint, to Te Whiti, to Athletics, and to Wings over Wairarapa tomorrow…thank you, thank you, thank you!

One stormy day a red eyed slime monster was fighting an evil ninja. The ninja ran with super speed and got his sharp claws to try and slice the slime monster in half. The slime monster used his slime gun to splat the evil ninja. The evil ninja mega jumped and used his laser eyes. The slime monster exploded!

I was holding a baby dragon. Then the dragon breathed out fire. It was hungry and the dragon ate some food. It was full and it flew away like a witch.
Storm Wilkin - 6 years old
I once had a pet dragon. It blazed fire at me. I dodged it like a cheetah. I was terrified and I ran home.
Lily Mckenzie - 6 years old
Me and my brother were bored because we were just sitting on our beds. We climbed up in my bed to watch some TV. But we were so so so so bored. So we floated to the moon and then flew back to my bed. That was an amazing trip!

I was on the swing. After the swing I went to cook damper at the fire and it tasted like pancakes. Then I went to the clay and it felt ooey and gooey.
Kailey Richardson - 6 years old
Broom broom we arrived at the forest school. We ate a snack and then it was time to get into our groups. I went to the damper. It was yum and I wanted more. The bell rang and it was time for lunch. Then we had some free time. I went in the hammock and swung like a monkey.

Order Subway online or at the office for delivery to school friday
Every Friday we have Subway lunches delivered to school. If you would like to order your child a subway lunch, the easiest way is to order online. Please make sure you put your child's class (teachers name) on the order as it makes it much easier to sort our end. Subway can also be ordered by filling out a form at the school office before school on a Friday. Please note that these must be ordered by early morning on the Friday to ensure your child's order goes through for that day.
Please note that the app you are looking for is Subway Express - School Lunch programme.
