Cyclone Gabrielle

It has been unreal to watch the events unfold this week…particularly coming so quickly after the severe weather event less than a fortnight earlier. The effect on people, the damage to property, businesses, agriculture…the images have been hard to believe. Alongside the damage, the stories of great people doing great things have been uplifting…people getting others out to safety, collections underway for essential supplies and the amazing responders and rescuers. The images of helicopter rescues from rooftops in the Hawkes Bay will be enduring, and the story of the local PowerCo contractors who, after working day/night to restore power to the Eastern Wairarapa, slept in their ute for a few hours in a flooded paddock before continuing to work away, is amazing. Thoughts go out to all affected communities, the impact of this event will be felt for quite some time.

Locally our Eastern communities have taken the brunt, and we’ve had children unable to get into school. I’ve offered our resources and support to both Whareama and Tinui School as they assess damage, and work towards returning to normal out there. Aside from some large puddles, and a muddy field, we’ve been alright here at school.

Our Vision: Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future

Our school vision is centered around the idea of working collaboratively to create a better future for ourselves and the world around us. 'Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future,' reflects our commitment to fostering a community of learners who value cooperation, creativity, and innovation.

The first part of our school vision emphasizes the importance of nurturing. We believe that learning should be a supportive and positive experience that promotes personal growth and development. This means creating an environment where students feel safe, comfortable, and supported in their academic and personal pursuits. By nurturing our students' well-being, we hope to create a foundation for success and lifelong learning.

The second part of our vision centers around exploration. We believe that education should be a journey of discovery that encourages curiosity and inquiry. By exploring new ideas and perspectives, we hope to foster a deeper understanding of the world and its complex challenges. Through exploration, we hope to equip our students with the skills and knowledge they need to engage meaningfully with their communities and the wider world.

The final part of our vision highlights the importance of creating a better future. We believe that education should not only prepare students for the present but also for the future. By encouraging creativity and innovation, we hope to equip our students with the skills and mindset needed to tackle the challenges of tomorrow. Through collaboration and creative problem-solving, we hope to empower our students to make a positive impact in their communities and the world.

By nurturing, exploring, and creating, we hope to foster a community of learners who value cooperation, creativity, and innovation. Our vision is a reflection of our commitment to preparing our students for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

School Picnic - Postponed

We’ve made the decision to postpone this event given the weather. We will wait for a bit until the decent weather returns and set a new date then.

Reminder: No students before 8.15am

Just a reminder, our gates are closed in the morning until 8.15am. A bell rings then, and after that students are welcome to come into school. But not prior. Before 8.15am staff are preparing for the day, and are scattered around the school and are unable to supervise students. After 8.15am teachers are in classes, and ready to welcome the children in. Thanks for your support with this.
