Nearly at the end of easily the most ‘interesting’ 6 months of my career...and ending a super long term with wet weather, not that ideal! I passed on my praises to our school community in a previous newsletter, but just want to reiterate that again. We’ve been through a massive event, and come through the other side of it well. We have all earned this holiday break...a chance to reset, relax and refresh. I hope you all have a good one, and take the chance to reconnect with whānau and friends.
What a cool performance in the hall yesterday! Each of the teaching teams has been working on 3 dances since prior to lockdown, and they put on a wonderful show for whānau who came out despite the bitter weather! Loved seeing this side of learning in action, the creativity and energy that the children brought.
Massive thanks to Mrs Walsh for organising this for the school, and to Paris and the Footsteps team for the passion, enthusiasm and energy they brought for us.
Check out the awesome moves here on our Facebook page
You’ll be aware of the house fire in Judds Road over the weekend, a real tragedy and loss for that whānau at a tough time of year. Douglas Park has a connection to them, so we feel their loss as well. A Give a little page has been set up to help the family find their feet again and I’d just like to promote it here. The whānau would appreciate any help, and it’s a nice way to give back to someone within our DPS Community.
Another event to add to your calendars, come along to the FODPS AGM...join the team, and have your say in how they support our school. The FODPS team provide the extras, the things that would be a stretch for the school to afford otherwise and we are super appreciative of all their efforts! Love your kids getting to swim daily? That's the FODPS. Enjoy the trips away the children get? That's the FODPS. Bean bags, robotics, sports gear...the FODPS have provided so much to the kids of DPS. Friends of DPS AGM, Monday 27th July, 7pm in the staffroom. All welcome. Join us for drinks and nibbles, and some good conversation.
Dear Mr Sinton
I personally disagree with you because the staff and pupils of DPS are very tired, and you probably are too. Did you think about all of the parents that booked holidays all over NZ to connect with family they haven't seen since Christmas and/or lockdown? Also you need time with Hayley and your children will want to spend time hanging out with you.
Yours Sincerely,
Oona
Dear Mr Sinton
I strongly believe that we should have our normal two week holiday because a lot of us have plans to go see family that they haven't seen over lock-down. They will be heart-broken and will have to wait another year. You will also have kids moaning and more parents moaning at you. Staff and kids will be sleeping during class because they are too tired to do anything! What if you and Hayley have your anniversary in the second week , you're having your candle-lit dinner with wine and BOOM! Your candle-lit dinner is in the staffroom. Then the road patrol and dishes people come in and ask to eat your food and drink your wine.
I suggest you reconsider
Yours Sincerely,
Marleigh
Dear Mr Sinton
We have heard that you are going to cut our holidays one week short. Here are some things to think about;
You are a very hard working Principal and you need a bigger break than one week, if you have two weeks you will have a fresh start after the holidays and get into your hard working habits again. Imagine if people have booked holidays and can no longer go - disaster! We were stuck in our bubble for the last holidays so it would be great to be free for these ones. While lockdown was time away from school, it wasn't a holiday like we are used to so I strongly suggest you think about what works for everyone at DPS.
Yours Sincerely,
Mrs Williams writing group (Savage Sausages)
