Kapahaka Festival

I’ve just come back from watching our two kapahaka roopu at Wairarapa College for the Kapahaka Festival…and wow! They were just stunning! Our kids were enthusiastic and passionate…and both groups performed with such PRIDE! I watched/filmed the seniors up on the balcony…tears in my eyes watching, hearing and appreciating what they were delivering. Matua Jimbo’s impact can’t be understated…the quality of the performances year on year has improved out of sight. But…don’t take my word for it…have a watch below!

Our Vision: Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future

Service Day Success! What an awesome day last Friday that saw all of our whānau classes taking action for others, giving back to the community and completing acts of service.

What I liked most about the day was not only how proud the children were, but how well they could talk about what they were doing. The culture we are developing, the young people we are helping to develop is inspiring. Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future

Check out this video of all the great things your children got up to!

Board of Trustees Nominations

We’ve reached that point of the Board of Trustees cycle where we head into mid-term elections. At Douglas Park School we opted into having staggered elections, which means every 18 months we have positions available. This is great…it means that the BoT always has members with experience, providing continuity for the school.

We have 2 positions coming up this time, and nominations are now open. Being on the Board is an amazing opportunity…you get to give back to the school community by ensuring the school is governed well, resourced well and on a good path. You also get the benefit of the experience…it is great leadership development, a good way to develop knowledge of how Boards work, property, finance etc…but also how to create and run an effective organisation. We meet 9 times a year…twice a term in Terms 1-3 and 3 meetings in Term 4. Meetings tend to run for between 60-90 minutes, with the only work in between tending to be some reading.

External training is available to Trustees, and as 3 members of the board (and myself) carry on, we are available to support and induct you in.

Nomination forms were posted out to each of you via HERO, will be emailed, and are also available in the office. You can nominate yourself...or have someone nominate you on behalf. If we have more nominations than places an election will follow, or if we have the right amount (or less...as long as we have 3) then those people are automatically onto the BoT.

Whānau Survey - Go in the draw for a $50 Countdown Voucher

A couple of paper surveys came home with your child on Tuesday…yellow paper, one survey was around our Strategic Plan and one was around our use of HERO for communication.

Simply fill out and return by tomorrow to be in the draw! Any feedback is great feedback!

Well done Edie!

Last weekend Edie’s team travelled to Wellington and won the Wellington 10th grade competition. This was followed up by another win by the team at the Douglas Villa Tournament in Masterton last weekend! Great stuff Edie, you love your soccer!

Order Subway online or at the office for delivery to school friday

Every Friday we have Subway lunches delivered to school.  If you would like to order your child a subway lunch, the easiest way is to order online.  Please make sure you put your child's class (teachers name) on the order as it makes it much easier to sort our end.  Subway can also be ordered by filling out a form at the school office before school on a Friday.  Please note that these must be ordered by early morning on the Friday to ensure your child's order goes through for that day.

Please note that the app you are looking for is Subway Express - School Lunch programme.
