I’m one of the lead organisers for the Masterton wide Teacher Only Day that was due to happen next week...Friday 28th August. We’ve made the decision to postpone this, COVID has thrown a spanner in the works with the Level 2 mass gathering rules and one of our presenters was coming from Auckland.
Douglas Park is still going to have a Teacher Only Day...we have some internal development that we can run, and again it provides an opportunity for us to further explore our school app HERO. As always, we appreciate your support for these days.
Great response to our new school app HERO, it worked really well as part of the Learning Conversations last week. While use will grow over time, we are starting with the Community Feed. Currently the newsletter will go up each week, other important school announcements (such as a change to the COVID-19 Alert Levels), and some notices (eg. some hockey information has been shared via HERO to those parents of hockey children).
Very happy to help parents get sorted, setup and into HERO...and we have done that with a bunch of whānau so far. Just email the office, or drop in to see us at school.
We are still under Alert Level 2 and all our systems are in place at DPS. A reminder that we are still happy to have parents come onsite for drop-off and pickup...if you want to come in with your child you are more than welcome. Jane, Shaun and I are on the gates to update our contact tracing register, and to sanitise hands on entry.
Last Friday we made the call to send books home with children...just in case we went to Alert Level 3. While that didn’t eventuate (thank goodness), it was a good exercise for us in terms of preparation. We are ready and able to shift gears quickly and to transition to a Level 3 way of working if we need to in the future. I appreciated all the support and positive feedback we got for our efforts on Friday, as do the staff.
Reminder that it is Mufti Day tomorrow...but in place of a gold coin, bring along a non-perishable food item to support the local Food Bank. A very worthy cause, especially in light of the financial hardship being felt due to COVID-19. Much appreciated team!
Our goal is for kids to learn the te reo PRIDE values and to use them as often as the english version. Use the following link to continue practicing
One day I went to Alaska. It was freezing. It was so freezing that all the animals were about to die. Oh no, what am I going to do?
I know!!! The plan is to get a lot of people and we will make a line of people holding mirrors and connect the sun to the mirrors. Then we will connect the mirrors to each other and then get them to shine to Alaska. Then it will melt.

On Monday night I went to the haunted house. It was so scary. I jumped, and I peed a little.
“Mum, can I have some spare undies,” I said.
“Oh no - a monster,” I said. “I’m out.” The ghost followed me. BOOM BOOM! He killed me. This is bad because I am dead.
“See you sucker,” said the monster, and off he went.

It’s so hot, I complained as I opened my eyes. Arghhhh, I’m trapped inside a giant lava lamp! Suddenly... I saw freaky huge hot bubbles. I was so so tiny that I got trapped inside a big bubble. I felt like I was rising up. Suddenly I hit something - I looked out and I saw that another bubble had hit us. The bubble that I was in popped and I was touched by another burning hot bubble, and I died.

It’s so hot, I complained as I opened my eyes. Arghhhh, I’m trapped inside a giant lava lamp! Suddenly... I was surfing on a hot bubble. It was a hot, like, melting hot. I was melting and it was scary.

Today I went to hunt for some meat. Then I saw a humongous raptor monster. It had spikes everywhere and poison dripping from its disgusting mouth and it had a triple snake tail. It jumped at me and poisoned me with its triple snake tail. It stabbed me with its fangs. Then it threw me into the air, and jumped and gobbled me up.

It’s so hot, I complained as I opened my eyes. Arghhhh, I’m trapped inside a giant lava lamp! Suddenly... I saw a lava bubble monster! Ahhhhh! I floated around because there was no gravity. So I was floating around. I felt sweaty.

I went to the speedway and I saw a car zoom up a ramp like a rocket. It flipped over and scraped its bonnet and it caught on fire and I said “it was amazing!”

On the weekend I went to the pool with my family. We saw two sharks and a humongous wave.

We will load the draws into this folder for Netball, Hockey and Miniball. Make sure you check it every week!
Many thanks for your co-operation while we play at level 2. A reminder that teams are allowed a maximum of 16 in total including players, umpire etc - we are allowing ONE spectator per player. Please be prompt to drop your children to their game and collect afterwards.
A reminder to check the draw in Team 3 Sport - DRAWS folder or the Netball Wairarapa website. We really appreciate you having players at the courts on time and 'netball ready'. This means long hair tied up, nails cut, correct uniform/sneakers and NO jewellery to be worn.
It is very unlikely games will be cancelled, but if they are it will be posted on the DPS FB page or the Netball Wairarapa FB page.
Best of luck for your game!
Any questions...please contact Amy Williams on amywilliams@douglaspark.school.nz
REMINDER: draws can be found in this folder.
Primary Hockey will still be played at alert level 2. There are a few changes to ensure teams can still play. There will be hand sanitiser at the gates as well as the QR code for the Covid-19 app.
PLEASE NOTE
There must be no more than 16 people with each group, this is to include players, coach and spectators. Anyone else MUST remain outside the complex or in their cars. Each player will be allowed ONE spectator. There is no exception to this rule as the facility must keep numbers to a maximum of 100 at all times.
We have attached a turf map that shows you where you can go depending on the field that you are playing on. Please use the hand sanitiser and make sure children are not sharing their hockey gear. All teams must leave the grounds as soon as their game is finished.
The draw has been changed to accommodate the Level 2 restrictions. Please make sure you are connected to our school app, Hero, as there will be regular updates on there too.
