Our Vision: Together we Nurture, Explore and Create for a Better Future

More amazing news to start the term off:

We have been accepted as an Apple Distinguished School! This comes after years of transforming the way teaching and learning looks at this school, alongside developing how we can be creative digitally. Our DPS Kids are amazingly creative…give them hot glue and cardboard and watch out! Likewise, give them an iPad and you’ll be blown away with what they can do. Being an Apple Distinguished School is a real honour…Douglas Park is the only New Zealand school that got in this year, and we are now part of a global network of schools at the cutting edge of education and technology use. Apple were very impressed when they visited the school earlier this year, and were blown away by our video submissions. Massive thanks again to Rob Brienza for putting these together.

So…what an incredible start we are having to the term!

Connect, Inspire, Learn - The Student Led Conference

Today we host the 3rd Connect, Inspire, Learn event...a conference for children, run by children. The event was last held in 2020…and since then has been on hold due to COVID. The event is pretty amazing...a real chance for kids across the town to live up to our Core Belief of Learner Agency...taking control of their learning, crafting a presentation and delivering this to their peers. Shaun Harkness is one of the lead organisers for the event, and has put in a massive amount of mahi to provide this opportunity for the town.

Building Update

The projects are still progressing around the school nicely…

Teacher Only Day - Monday 13th November

Our last Teacher Only Day for the year. Douglas Park and 8 other primary schools are closing to learn more about the refreshed NZ Curriculum. The day is starting here at DPS as we listen to Derek Wenmoth…a fantastic thinker in the education space. He worked with our staff at the beginning of this year, and I have brought him to Masterton for other teacher-only days. So…Monday 13th November…Teacher Only Day…add to your calendars!

Grandparents Day

Save the Date! Next week, Friday 27th October for our Grandparents Day!

Here are some Room 13 holiday recounts.   Can you spot the favourite place to visit???

I was in Go Zone. I went on the trampoline, the really bouncy one. Then I went up the really tall wall.  I had fun on the donut slide.

Nana and Grand took me and Kyran on big boat.  Kyran and I went swimming and we went on some islands and we did heaps of stuff.  Me and Kyran went on a zip line.

One Sunday in the holidays I went to Blossom Valley.  I had dinner there it was chips.  Blossom Valley has walkway, a maze and a cafe.

You can get in Blossom Valley by buying tickets online or at Blossom Valley.  There are parks near cherry blossom trees.  There are drinks in the cafe. I went over the mini water fall.  There are lots of Cherry Blossom Trees.

In the school holidays I went to my Mum’s office.  My Mum said “I have a surprise for you…”

At 3:00 I was at Go Zone.  I was so excited because I was at Go Zone. First I went to the basketball hoop.  Second, I went into the foam pit.  Third, I went on the donut slide.  I felt so nervous because I’m afraid of heights.  When I am down I felt so relieved.

I went to Go Zone with the holiday programme.  I went down the donut slide and I spun super fast and when I fell off the donut onto the soft part.  Next  I did a front flip into the scary ball pit and got covered in balls.  It was dark in there and Cortez helped me out of there.

I got hot and then I jumped off the rock wall.

I went fishing during the school holidays.  We caught two sharks at first.  We made a burning hot gigantic fire.  We found a couch there that was covered in so many flies.  I found a green stone that was so tiny.  We stayed there until 5pm

Order Subway online or at the office for delivery to school friday

Every Friday we have Subway lunches delivered to school.  If you would like to order your child a subway lunch, the easiest way is to order online.  Please make sure you put your child's class (teachers name) on the order as it makes it much easier to sort our end.  Subway can also be ordered by filling out a form at the school office before school on a Friday.  Please note that these must be ordered by early morning on the Friday to ensure your child's order goes through for that day.

Please note that the app you are looking for is Subway Express - School Lunch programme.
