First Week

We created 'Candy Corn Guys' that will be hung up on the shared kindergarten bulletin board for the month of October. They turned out great! We also labeled the parts of an apple. To end our day, we tasted apple bread, which we loved, and wrote the ingredients we thought were in the bread.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month. This morning we met with the counselor, Ms. Wahlgren, and we took the pledge to take a stand against bullying. We completed a pledge paper and signed our names on a poster. A signed pledge also went home with your student. We continued to practice our Daily 5 Choices, and the kindergarteners are having a fun time with our new choice, Word Work. We also added books to our book bins from the classroom library. This was a very exciting time today! They were able to go through the library bins and choose books to read during Read to Self time. We also learned more about apples and began to learn about how they grow. To end the day, we began an apple art project.

We began our day by peeling and coring apples to make applesauce. Each student was able to use the apple peeler/corer to help make our applesauce. They loved this! During snack, we taste-tested green, yellow, and red apples to see which flavor we liked best. Most liked red! We also completed an apple sequencing project showing how apples grow on trees. To end our day, we finished our apple art project and tasted our homemade applesauce. It was a big hit!

We began our day by doing an apple math/art project. We continued to make our Daily 5 Choices and practicing in our Handwriting Without Tears book.
