We love math time in our kindergarten classroom, and this year, we utilize our Bridges curriculum. The Bridges curriculum allows for a combination of whole-group, small-group, and independent activities. Students will be engaged in their learning by being given the opportunity to work through problems and challenge and support each other's thinking.

Math Units:
Unit 1 - Numbers to 5 & 10
Students will learn number names and counting to 20, count to tell the number of objects, and understanding quantities of 5 and 10. Students will also be exposed to sorting, classifying, comparing, and graphing.
Unit 2 - Numbers to 10
Students will learn number names and counting to 20, count to tell the number of objects, and comparing quantities within 10. Students will also focus on combinations of numbers to make 5 and subitizing.
Unit 3 - Bikes & Bugs: Double, Add & Subtract
Students will learn how to look for, build, and solve problems about doubles within 10. Students will also focus on using 5-frames and 10-frames to add, compare, and order numbers.
Unit 4 - Paths to Adding, Subtracting & Measuring
Students will work with the numbers 0 to 10 to count forwards and backwards and identify missing numbers. Students will also solve addition and subtraction story problems and compare lengths.
Unit 5 - Two-Dimensional Geometry
Students will describe and compare measurable attributes of objects to classify them. Students will learn how to count, compare, and graph the number of objects in each category. Students will learn how to identify and describe shapes. Students also analyze, compare, create, and compose shapes.
Unit 6 - Three-Dimensional Shapes & Numbers Beyond 10
Students will work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations of place value. Students will learn how to identify and describe shapes (2-D & 3-D).
Unit 7 - Measurement & Teen Numbers
Students will explore measurement (weight, length, etc.). Students will continue to work with numbers 11-19 to gain foundations of place value.
Unit 8 - Computing & Measuring with Frogs & Bugs
Students will use what they have learned to continue solving addition and subtraction problems, measuring, estimating, comparing, and investigating place value.
This will be our fifth year implementing Number Corner, which is a component of the 'Bridges in Mathematics' curriculum. "Number Corner is a skill building program that revolves around the classroom calendar, providing daily practice as well as continual encounters with broader mathematical concepts in 15-20 minutes of engaging instruction."
