Special thanks go out to Mr. Peter Hunter, Ms. Jennifer Hunter and Mr. Mark Schwartz for the extra effort and the additional responsibilities that they have undertaken to assist our students as a result of the sudden departure of two members of the Upper School in July. We have been fortunate to bring on two new Upper School staff members; Ms. Chiara Lutteri, as the US Social Studies Teacher who joined us this week, and Ms. Teneshia Taylor, the new US English teacher and who arrives this weekend and will join the US division on Monday. We welcome both and wish them all the best.

It is smooth sailing in the Lower School. Students have learned, practiced, and are following expectations, routines, and procedures. Class communities are being built. And we have concluded fall MAP testing. The 2023/24 school year is off to a fantastic start! Thank you all to attended Back to School Night (BTSN) on September 5. If you were not able to make it, know you were missed. In our effort to collect data for continuous improvement, you might receive a phone call connected to BTSN.
Parent Teacher Conferences are on October 4 and you will be contacted regarding a time slot. More information about PTCs will be communicated in due time.
Please take the time to read your child's teacher's Weekly Bulletin and Monthly Newsletter. Both contain important information about class and school happenings.
The Lower School staff had some fun in the early days of the 23/24 school year, playing Guess Who. Staff submitted baby photos of themselves. The task was to correctly identify the 28 participating staff members. After 2 weeks of tough guessing, the winners are clear: 1st place= Malak Lahlou (25/28), 2nd= Cassie Garvin (24/28), 3rd= Karen Saadeh (23/28). What's their prize you might ask....Ms. Phillips covering their lunch or recess duty!

The Uniform shop at CAS will be open every day from 8:00 to 11:30 on Tuesdays and from 14:00 to 16:00 on Thursdays.
CAS recently lost two beloved members of our community, Rodeo and Boots. Over the last nine years, both of these special dogs loved getting treats and pats from students, staff, and parents and in return they protected their “territory” in the front gate area, and naturally, gave all of us who cherished them adoring licks, snuggles and hugs!
Three years ago, Rodeo was adopted by LS teachers Taylor and Jonny, and eventually emigrated with them to America, while Boots remained here at school.
I personally never had much experience looking after dogs, but since becoming friends with Rodeo (and if there ever was a “peer” dog, he was very much so!), it has become my life’s mission to help the homeless dogs of Morocco. To say that both dogs have changed me forever is an understatement.
But these dogs were loved and cared for by many, and I’d like to share with you some thoughts and remembrances from others:
"We are so devastated. He was the best dog (Rodeo) ever, we both loved him so much. He took a quick decline the past few months so when I took him in to the veterinarian, I was so scared of the outcome but I thought it might be coming. He was the snuggliest, and I’m so thankful Ms. Gi asked us to take him. We won’t be the same without him 😭", Taylor and Jonny, former CAS teachers, fur parents, and animal activists.
“I would like to say that he (Boots) was an addiction to CAS who with his presence made it more welcoming to staff and students. He gave positive vibes just being around with his innocence and warmth. I will definitely miss seeing him everyday around school❤️.” Khadija Kibal, LS Interventionist
“Boots will certainly be missed. He was very much loved! I'd like to think that he moved on to a better place, and that's really comforting.” Bouthaina Zaidi, LS Instructional Assistant
"I am so sorry for this news. I did my best as a member of the Art&Animals Club for Boots to survive and have a decent life.” Mehdi Tazi, Grade 5, Art&Animals Club Member and Activist
Ayaan Rewachand, Grade 4, Art&Animals Club activist, upon hearing the news, was deeply saddened and shared "I am very sad to hear that Rodeo and Boots died, they were very special to CAS, I did everything I could to keep them alive in first grade, second grade, and third grade.” Even before joining the A&A club, his mom also shared that Ayaan fondly remembers giving food to them since he was in the first grade.
“I will always cherish my walks with Rodeo when he was living with Jonny and Taylor in Casablanca and how excited he would get when my car would pull up! With regards to our dear Boots, at one point, I was prepared to bring him to our home a few months ago because some residents near CAS complained about the presence of dogs in the area. He was literally in my car but school management assured me he would be fine, and to keep him at CAS. I will also never forget his courage when he had to spend more than 6 weeks at Veterinaire Kenza for an injury. He had to re-learn how to walk.” Youssouf Aboulfaraj, husband of Ms. Gi, animal rights activist, and responsible for food procurement/delivery for dogs of CAS
Please remember, always, Adopt Don’t Shop!!!! Sterilize and vaccinate your pets. If you can’t have a pet, but would like to help, consider sponsorship.
GET INVOLVED! If you would like to make a memorial donation to help the remaining dogs of CAS, are interested in adopting a needy cat or dog, would like more information about the work of Art&Animals Club, or sponsorship, please contact Ms. Gi at ggruen@cas.ac.ma
