Dear Parents,
I wish you all a very Happy New Year, with much happiness, health and joy. We welcome you all to another stretch of the year and to another edition of our What’s Up Cobras.
Following the Child Protection Training, workshops and certification led by Dr. Ian Russell in December, I would like to thank the parents who took of their time to attend and participate in this very important matter. Our Staff members had a chance to work closely with Dr. Ian Russell and learn about our obligation to protect the children in our care. Dr. Russell felt a great sense of community here at CAS that was clear as he interacted with staff, parents and students alike. More opportunities to participate in other workshops will become available as we look forward to more collaboration with Dr. Russell.
Thank you to the PTC members: Mrs. Kaoutar Jamai Ghazlani and Mrs. Hinde Bouayad for organizing the Staff Christmas Breakfast before our Winter Break and for pampering them with the nice take away gift. Thank you to all the volunteers who made it happen. I also would like to thank them for organizing the bookgift for the LS Students. Santa's visit made it as usual a special event!
Thank you again to Lina and Nascer Tazi for hosting another amazing Staff Party in December. Each year, our staff look forward to this party that the Tazis have been throwing for the last 19 years.
Happy New Year to our Amazigh Community, being celebrated this Sunday, January 14. This Monday, January 15th, we shall be celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Day.
We always love to share with you photos and videos of events happening at our school. If you do not want your child or children to appear in any of our publications, kindly let us know.
Congratulations to Mrs. Allison Billington, Grade 4A Teacher for her first newborn Dahlia Jane. Both Mother and Child are doing well and enjoying each other’s company.
Last but not least, have a restful long weekend and we look forward to seeing you during the Ordinary General Assembly, on Tuesday, January 16th at 18:30.
Sincerely
John Randolph
School Director
Yedam Lee, G6, spent a week in early November in northern Morocco volunteering with a medical team from Korea. During this time Yedam assisted with various administrative tasks and bedside care for Moroccan citizens receiving ophthalmic procedures through a collaborative project. Please see the attached for Yedam's account of the experience. Well done representing CAS and for your service-oriented heart!

The Upper School had a great return from our December holidays and is looking forward to IB mock Exams, People to People clean up events, and an upcoming musical performance by our Grade 10 Music students. As we begin Trimester Two, many students are striving to do their best this term and focusing on organization.
Our grade 9 & 10 students have finished their architectural design project in their Design Technology class. Each student designed buildings using CAD software and later printed a 3D model. Their amazing models are on display near the cafeteria for the next two weeks, so please take a look when you attend the General Assembly on Tuesday.

The 2023 Tangier Model United Nations was an amazing event for our students.
After three days of conference, we are proud to share with you that our CAS delegation did an outstanding job. The MUN students displayed nothing but excellence as they demonstrated great speaker skills in their committees. Moreover, their good manners and courtesy during this whole trip helped make this experience a special one for all parties involved.
Now we would like to give a shoutout to our awards winners as CAS won 8 out of 16 awards:
Betül for best delegate and ambassador (Ukraine - Historical Security Council)
Mehmet best delegate (Palestine - Special Political)
Abla best delegate (United Kingdom - Special Political)
Layla best delegate (United Kingdom - Security Council)
Rita best delegate (United States - International Court of Justice)
Rashed case winner (Ukraine - International Court of Justice)
Habiba best delegate (Israel - Economic and Social Council)
Neil best delegate (Russia - Security Council)
We would also like to congratulate our delegates who participated in a conference for the first time and did an outstanding job: Lilya, Ikram, Lilia, Hiba, Kenza, Khadija, Nour, Mia, Rashed, Danwoo, Aida and Luigina. Even though they were just starting, the new delegates overcame difficult committees and showcased great skills. They’ll have a bright future at MUN!
Of course, we also have to mention the leadership team, Sarah, Mehmet and Betül, Abla, whose efforts, support, and maturity were commendable.
Finally, we would like to give special thanks to Ms. Hunter who joined the team as chaperone!
This trip to Tangier was a success, not only for our students, who certainly learned a lot, but also for our community as a whole. We are excited to continue working with MUN and we would like to express our gratitude for your support of the Model United Nations programme.
Warm regards,
The MUN advisors - Yannick Destarac and Julian Perrin
Implementation of the new Creative Curriculum in Nursery and Kinder
The Early Childhood Centre hosted a Family Day for Nursery and Kindergarten Families on Wednesday, December 14th. The parents and children spent time in the classrooms playing and exploring the new Creative Curriculum we are implementing. Teachers had a chance to explain the curriculum and how they make the learning visible through their daily observations. Thank you, parents, for supporting your children’s future!

Congratulations to Alum, Mhani Alaoui, Class of 1995, for the publication of her third book, The House on Butterfly Street. As Simon&Schuster puts it: "Moroccan novelist Mhani Alaoui’s work embraces both her roots and global themes. She lived and studied in the US for twelve years before returning to Casablanca. An anthropologist by training, her multilayered writing vividly depicts lives from her Arab North African cradle, giving voice to intergenerational aspirations, trials, and legacies, particularly of her women characters. While her storytelling powerfully uncovers history’s scars, her compassionate insight invites readers to imagine, yearn for, and seek a more just and kinder world. In addition to The House on Butterfly Street, her previous works include Dreams of Maryam Tair and Aya Dane."
Mhani's book is available at Carrefour des Livres if you would like a copy, or you might want to order it through Amazon.
What a pride to have such a native talented writer as one of our own!
