We sadly report the passing of Mrs. Stella Fizazi, one of the pillars of the Casablanca American School Community, a former parent, a Board member, a valuable member of the Churchill Club, Directrice of the American Language Center and member of the American Women's Club to note just a few of her associations. Mrs. Fizazi passed away in the US this week. Stella was known and appreciated for her strong support of the lives of expatriates in Morocco and the promotion of Morocco. She used every means to make the Foreign Community feel at home. She also advocated for open-mindedness, and pluralism. Stella raised two beautiful children Meryem and Kamal, both CAS Alumni. We offer our sincere condolences to Stella's family.
=========================================
Besides the health impact, the financial devastation from Covid 19 will be felt around the world and is being compared to the Great Depression (1929-1933). In this regard, we must be alert to its impact right here in our community. Because we care for each CAS family and would like to help as much as we can, we encourage our parents to do business with one another taking into consideration their areas of expertise or business. For this purpose, we would like to create a database with CAS parents' affiliations that will be confidentially shared with our community, promoting products or services that can be of interest to some or to all. If you are interested and would like to be part of this, please send us a paragraph or two with your affiliation logo so that we may add it to our database.
Thank you to our wonderful parents for showing their appreciation to our faculty members. You really made their day!
Special thanks to the amazing moms, to whom we wish a very special Family Day, with the rest of all CAS families. They put together and made sure more than 100 gift baskets were delivered to our Faculty on Wednesday and Thursday in appreciation of their dedication to our students during Corona Time.
Thank you again Asmaa Chaoui, Kaoutar Jamai, Sandra Klousseh, Jihane El Jerari and Fatiha Sajid. Your uniqueness is beyond expression! and hats off to our personnel who delivered the packs in no time!
Parents and students from our community have sent us small messages for our teachers in light of teacher appreciation week and all the wonderful efforts put in during this confinement period. We've compiled it into a short video for our Teachers. Here goes their message:
Dear CAS Teachers,
We just wanted to say…
Not all superheroes have capes…
…some have teaching degrees!
Our hearts are GRATEFUL…
“It’s the teacher that makes the difference, not the classroom.” – Michael Morpurgo
Behind these hidden masks are BIG smiles. Thank YOU to our wonderful CAS parents for the thoughtful and delicious care boxes that were delivered to us. We know things are hard for parents as well right now too, but you still went above and beyond. We are grateful to be part of such a loving and caring CAS community!
"Have you ever wondered if there are parallel realities? Or what the shape of our universe is? Or how stars produce the very elements that make up your body? Well students in Mr. Cherubim's IB Physics class do. Check out Mr. Cherubim's science blog, featuring articles written by some of our graduating seniors at CAS in which they explore these ideas and many more. A new article will be posted each week for the next few weeks and they will surely blow your mind!" Follow us on: https://www.etaearth.com/
We cordially invite you to check out the first ever CAS Online Art Gallery; Art in the time of Corona. Our CAS students have been working hard all trimester. Here is the link to access it CAS Online Art Gallery
We hope you enjoy viewing what is just a sampling of what CAS artists (Lower and Upper Schools) have been creating during the confinement. Please check back often as we will be adding exhibits as we complete projects.

LS Art teacher/Department Head
Every Friday, Kinder class celebrates the end of the week! An opportunity to gather virtually and lift each other's spirits. It is a wonderful initiative by our own Sara Alj to provide her students with a socializing moment that allows them to stay tuned and connected despite the isolation this confinement has created.
Seniors - Sending results to University: As part of the services offered by IB, a maximum of six institutions worldwide can be selected (via the IB DP Coordinator) for free to send your IB results directly by IB, regardless of whether the results are to be sent in electronic or paper format. Of these six, no more than three institutions can be selected from Canada and the USA (of these three, only one for the USA). If you wish this service, please let me know before June 10th, 2020. For any additional request, you must submit it directly to IB via their public website at https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/assessment-and-exams/requesting-transcripts/.
Grade 10 students: The online meetings are going well and will continue over next week too. Please be prepared for an open discussion understanding that the enrollment to any course is subject to approval based on your teacher's recommendation and your previous grades in the subject. You may need to reconsider the Universities where you want to apply or the field that you wish to study after high school based on the courses that you are allowed to undertake at IB. For advice on your University-related choices, don’t hesitate to contact our college counselor, Ms. Rana Haroun for advice.
For any questions related to IB don't hesitate to contact me at azamfirescu@cas.ac.ma

Every Friday, I take a real pleasure interacting with our younger students in the Lower School. Yesterday, it was a real joy for me to google meet and read a story to Grade 3 students. Many questions were asked and children's responses were not void of good humor in these unusual times. Thank You!
This will be the EVENT of the year. Our CAS students do not have to be rocket stars, but they will for sure be our best allies for the conception of a video that will go viral, as together we face challenges brought upon us by COVID-19. We challenge each of them to keep our CAS spirit alive and prove, once again, that we are who we are; Cobras that despite the distance that separates us, we can share amazing moments online. Watch out for details in the next editions to come.
The End of Ramadan will be either, Saturday, May 23rd or Sunday, May 24th. To celebrate Eid Al Fitr, no classes will be offered on Monday, May 25th or Tuesday, May 26th. We wish our Muslim parents, colleagues and friends happy holidays with their beloved families. I'm sure it has not been easy with the confinement imposed on all of us by Covid 19 circumstances. We are aware too that Ramadan including its religious aspects imply celebrations with families and friends. We hope for better days for all sooner than we think. The End of Ramadan coincides also with USA memorial Day, that commemorates and honors all military personnel who have died in the USA armed Forces. Happy Memorial Day to our US citizens.
This is Nader - the son of Mary Sucquet who was teaching Grade 6 in CAS back in 1986-1987.
My mother and I just heard the extremely sad news of the passing of Mrs. Randolph.
We are terribly sorry for your loss and convey our most sincere condolences to you.
We were actually recalling our fond memories in Casablanca with you and Marie while we visited Sheila Cunningham last October in Minnesota.
I will always remember how kind, smiling and caring Marie was to us.
At ICS in Madrid, I had the pleasure of knowing her and remember how she helped my little classmates and myself to make masks in papier-mâché. I was around 5 years old but clearly remember that moment.
The following year, my parents and I joined you in Casablanca and I still remember how reassuring her bright smile was when she welcomed us at Hotel Swiss.
One of my most cherished memories was when we would be invited at your place for dinner and when you and Marie would always entertain me with funny stories and showing me classical movies such as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" which I watched recently again with a lot of emotion.
Riding in your car - a Citroën Palace if I am not mistaken - was always so much fun as you would both make me laugh so much.
And how could I forget how Marie would always have a kind word for me and tell me that she too really liked "Inspector Gagdet" (a French cartoon character)!
During these very difficult times, my mother and I send our deepest thoughts, sympathy and support.
We will be celebrating Marie's life and be sure to talk about her and remember her.
With all our fondest memories,
Love,
Mary Sucquet and Nader

Dear seniors,
At this time, all of you are starting to enroll in your universities. Remember that the universities will need 1. Your Final Transcript, and 2. Your IB Results.
Regarding your IB Results, Ms. Zamfirescu has sent you instructions on how to send these results to your universities. As for your final transcript, you must request it on BridgeU.
Steps:
1. Log in to BridgeU, go to "Universities," then "Applications."
2. Choose the university you are enrolling in:
For U.K. Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Conditional/Unconditional" and 3. "Firm Acceptance/Insurance Acceptance"
For all other Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Accepted," and 3. "Attending."
3. By completing the previous step, I will know which university to send your final transcript to.
Please also update the admissions results for the universities you will not be enrolling in.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, admissions for 2020/21 have actively continued at CAS since the beginning of this year. It is our pleasure to inform our community that many prospective students have applied to CAS and that some have been accepted after tests or observations have been conducted. If you know of relatives, friends or other interested families who would like to attend our institution, please contact, Ms. Samira Peters, at the Admissions Office at: speters@cas.ac.ma
