Dear Community Members,
How to contact CAS Administration:
We acknowledge that the current phone system is not adequately functioning for those who call in to speak to a member of staff. Next week, however, we shall report to everyone of the dialing method which will incorporate extensions to be able to connect with different sections of the school.
Aerosol Deodorant
No aerosol deodorant is to be used by CAS students while on campus only roll on deodorant is permitted.
We want to make all our parents and instructional staff acutely aware of the latest teen trend of burning each other with aerosol deodorant spray. The “Deodorant Challenge” occurs when young children spray a pressurized can of deodorant on each other’s skin at very close range and cause second or third degree burns and, in some cases, resulting in the need for skin grafts. The burns are the result of the epidermis freezing from chemicals in the deodorant which are highly pressurized and when sprayed on the skin cause a frost bite freezing injury to the epidermis. Besides the burn, chemicals are entering the body through the epidermis under pressure. The carcinogenic nature of these chemicals entering the body is not yet known, but these chemicals should not under any circumstances be entering one’s body.
Lost and Found
The Lost and Found has been accumulating very fast these past two weeks. The good news is that nothing gets lost!! The sad part is the carelessness of our students who leave clothing and other items here and there on the school grounds and never inquire about them. Furthermore, we do not have sufficient space to store these lost items. Therefore, the sooner they are claimed, the better it is.
Make sure you visit the Lost and Found section for this week. If you recognize an item that belongs to your child, please ask them to see Mr. Zakaria Anbaouy, our facilities Manager. Putting your child’s name on their Uniforms and other personal items will make it easy for us to recognize these items and return them. Finally, if these items are not claimed within three weeks’ time, the school will dispose of them. Every Friday, the lost and found is displayed by the Back Gate. Please make sure to visit and look for your child’s lost articles.
The Last Call for Yearbooks and Calendars:
This is the last call for the Yearbooks and the 2021/22 academic Calendars. If you have not picked up your copy of both, please do so at the Director’s Office asap.

Having finished the third full week of the 22/23 school year, things are moving along in the Lower School, even gaining momentum!
Students in grades 2-6 completed their Fall MAP tests in Reading and Math. Students reviewed their Spring 2022 scores before taking the Fall tests so they could see if they made any progress. It is quite possible to see scores remain the same or take a slight dip due to the "summer slide". What we will be focusing on is growing for the gold, wanting to see gains between the Fall and Spring '23 scores. Lower School students are working on setting SMART goals and defining plans to meet those goals. For many kids, increased MAP scores is one of their goals.
I hope you have taken some time to explore the Choose Love website and even joined Choose Love for Home to strengthen what we are doing through this social-emotional learning program (SEL) here at school. The first unit's focus is COURAGE. Students are exploring what courage is, what it sounds and looks like, and how we show courage in our daily lives. Please see this month's Choose Love September calendar. Remember the CHOOSE LOVE formula= Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action. In our upcoming Grow for the Gold Rallies, we will highlight the different Choose Love components and celebrate students who are consistently demonstrating them.
The Lower School Family Outreach Committee met during this past Wednesday's Early Dismissal to outline their list of events to include numerous events such as Literacy and Math Nights, Navigating the Online World for Each Age Group, Understanding Adolescence, and many others. More information on the various events will be provided. We look forward to your presence at these events as authentic partners in your child's educational journey.
Please help us in our ongoing effort to improve safety and security. As asked earlier this week, please share or send in to Imane El Kadiri (ielkadiri@cas.ac.ma) the following information:
Your family name
Children’s names (grade levels)
Primary Driver and Nanny names
Photocopied hardcopy of Driver and Nanny ID cards (send in with students)
Primary vehicle make/model
Primary vehicle plate number
Indicate who typically drops off/collects your children
*We do not need parent identification as it is already on file
Parents, please have a serious discussion with your drivers about their speed and behavior in the traffic line and parking lot in the morning. I was unable to catch several speeding drivers this morning. We have students walking around and I would hate for something bad to happen due to the negligence of an individual.
All families were provided a Family Dismissal Sign at the beginning of the year. Our Dismissal Team will wait to call students whose caregiver does not have a sign until the Back Gate and parking lot clears. Please ensure your Drivers or Nannies have the sign.

I would like first to thank the parents and students who attended the presentations by the guest American universities this Wednesday. Participating in the school events is a token of commitment to our mission statement. Parents are highly encouraged to be involved in the upcoming events; by doing so, we are sending our students the message that we value their school life.
As we set high standards for instruction, student achievement and character while maintaining a nurturing climate for students, families, and staff in our learning community, we are also implementing a new disciplinary approach in the US to reach our goals. The school-wide expectations and the ground-rules are clear and we count on our parents to be our partners and discuss with their children the importance of discipline at school. Good behavior and excellent discipline always pay off!
On September 28th, Mr. Seth Allen, the Dean of Admissions at Pomona College is invited by the U.S. Department of State to visit CAS and host a presentation about U.S. universities and financial aid. Grade 10 through Grade 12 students are invited to attend.
Finally, have a relaxing weekend, pay attention to the different correspondences received from the US division and note that we will be holding our Parent- Teacher conferences, on Wednesday October 5th.
