Dear Parents:
We always have news to share with you!
Today marks the 173rd day of school with some of it virtual and some of it face-to-face. We sure got a lot accomplished during these past 173 days. Some of our students were lucky to spend more time at school learning and interacting with their teachers and school mates. The culminating point was for sure the 3 wonderful last PTC Sponsored Fun Days that brought magic, enjoyment, and so much FUN to all. We ended the year on an excellent note and students took only fond fun filled memories for their Summer Holidays. Thank you to the tireless group of PTC mothers who put their hearts and their hands on it and made it such a happy ending. Thank you, thank you! Special thank you to Coca Cola for providing drinks and to Oliveri for the ice-cream both of which we all much enjoyed during those hot hours. Finally, Kudos to the staff and student volunteers who made it all happen.
We are a unique Community!
It has been a little over one year since my Marie left us. If you would like to join us to remember Marie, share anecdotes, photos and stories, her Zoom memorial will take place on July 24th at 10:00 am EST. We will communicate the link in the next coming weeks.
I wish all the best to our Seniors and any of their parents who are relocating elsewhere and to our departing staff for their years of professional service to our school and to their next adventures.
I am positive we shall start this next school year Face-to-Face beginning on the 25th of August. We will send updates to all at the beginning of August. In the meantime, I wish you all a restful and safe summer holiday.

School Director
It is common for people to embellish a person’s attributes after they pass away- we want to remember them at their best. With Yassine, there really is no need to. Yassine was our modern Renaissance man: entrepreneur, entertainer, son, husband and a true friend. He came to CAS in fourth grade, and never really left. We believe his raps and high fives still echo the Randolph building halls. Yassine was never one to conform, which made him a particularly outspoken teenager. He was incredibly intelligent, and used his powers of observation like a sword: it was difficult to get Yassine to do anything, as he’d be the first to ask ‘why?’ It is not coincidental that Yassine was a huge fan of the Matrix, and he was easily someone who would have gladly swallowed the red pill: unafraid of the cold hard truths of life. Yassine— even as a teenager— had a tenacity for pursuing the truth at all cost. He led the rest of his life in that manner, by challenging the status quo— whether it be through a joke, an entrepreneurial project, or in the own personal decisions he took, Yassine had a knack for pushing back against the wildly held beliefs most people never thought to challenge.
After leaving CAS, Yassine lived in New York and London before moving back to Morocco. In New York, Yassine met his match in terms of energy. The frenzied city, full of opportunity, thrill, and ambition was able to give him a channel for his energy. Those of us who knew Yassine in New York knew him gallivanting up and down the streets of Wall Street, making connections left and right, always bringing a light heart and a laugh to every night out. Never one to settle too long in one place, he became a man on the road; traveling tirelessly, pursuing his next passion and his next laugh with equal tenacity and ambition.
He moved to London, another metropolitan city that matched his spirit, before finally returning back home. Once he settled back home, Yassine decided — when most of his generation was still thinking about the next night out — to tackle a new industry in Morocco: organic farming. He made the cover of Jeune D’Afrique in an article that already predicted the bright path that awaited him. Yassine’s achievements were successive and varied, from organic farming, to car rallies, to pandemic relief. However, he was most proud of his media agency, MediaGuru, created in 2018 -and goodness, how well this profession represented him. In addition to creating them, he captured fleeting moments and the highs of life. Yassine had that kind of eye which is difficult to describe. Unpretentious, sharp, able to glamourize a Jeep the same way he was able to glamourize Morocco’s wildlife— he brought his vibrancy to every photo he took.
There is no shortage of achievements for which Yassine will be remembered, but we mostly want you to remember the wide smile, the loyal friend and the simple kindness behind the ambition. If you ask anyone from the Class of 2011 about Yassine’s legacy, they would tell you about how proud they are of him, his name, and his extended resume. But when asked what they felt was most important to focus on in this article, it was very clear that Yassine’s real legacy was his heart. There are stories of Yassine traveling countless of miles to help a friend in need. There are stories of Yassine putting himself on a limb to protect a friend: loyalty, for Yassine, was not an abstract concept. It was something you are. Yassine was witty and incredibly sharp. He had that power, to make a group of people come alive, through his energy. He was a restless and unapologetic man, taking risks with confidence and conviction. Yassine was proud, tough and stubborn, in the best way one can be.
Today, friends, acquaintances and strangers remember Yassine’s smile, which could genuinely light up a room. There is something to be said about his laugh, which resonated in every situation. To be close to Yassine was to be close to the source of life itself: it was to make light of everything that was heavy despite still having a deep understanding of all things complex, all things heavy, all things that make us human. We will miss him dearly. We have not even began to comprehend his loss. It is a comprehension that will take us our whole lifetime, as we progress through our own lives and realize the moments that we could have shared with him. We are up to the task. We will remember him fiercely.
We would like to end with a short poem by Jaafar Berraho:
Red pill glide
red pill slide
red pill ready
Scoop is always steady
Yassine’s genius was in his ability to adapt, his art was in wasting no time, big champ was always ready.
His superpower was finding flow and rhythm in anything life, Yassine truly was the music of life - now many moments of it are silent but I thank him for the light.
His smile is missed day and night and my prayers for him are with me until the end of the fight.
We would like to devote a portion of this article to discuss two important topics that have been primary causes of such tragedies in Morocco: alcohol abuse and reckless driving -which often come hand in hand-. Sadly, these accidents are caused by seemingly trivial actions, such as the search of a temporary adrenaline rush or a lack of self-awareness and consideration while being behind the wheel. Neither a justification to such devastation. Education on responsible driving should be communicated, especially to the youth, through multiple outlets, starting with -and not limited to- parents. Yassine was stripped from a life full of aspirations as well as from his family and friends. His departure was too early, but will never be in vain. This tragedy has created waves of sadness across Morocco. Let this start a serious conversation on one’s duty to consider who they are affecting through their actions.
Driving is a privilege and a responsibility; as you become a moving actor in the safe transit of a whole community. Please use it accordingly, as the privilege it is; to reach loved ones rather than lose them.
Looking back at my very first day as the Communication and Marketing Manager two years ago, it seems as if it were only yesterday! I'm sincerely honored to be part of our beautiful home of the Cobras!
Together we came a long way. It would not have been possible to accomplish all that we accomplished without your encouragements, suggestions, and contributions. Together, since its creation in September 2019, we reached 2030 followers on Instagram! We tackled it and covered it all in our Social Media Platforms: Press Releases, Facebook, What's Up Cobras, community events coordinated with students and the PTC etc... Our website is interactive, contains all info about us and features who we are!
Thank you to my Social Media Committee Cobras for your thirst and eagerness to start and take all matters that we have been covering to another level! I hope you have learned as much from me as I have from you!

We would like to congratulate and thank our Yearbook Committee for their endless hours working to create a wonderful yearbook! The team had to overcome many long nights, hybrid schedules, virtual meetings and countless hours! A special thank you goes to the committee's advisor, Ms Asmaa El Yacoubi! Each family receives one copy and it has been distributed to the youngest sibling in the family.
Our annual printed calendars have also been distributed! Congratulations to our two senior student, Kamil Lahjouji and Hassan Al Fadile for leading the Covid Art Calendar project. This contest has contributed to the art work used for the 2021/2022 calendar that we have printed and sent home with the yearbooks! Thank you to Ms G for overseeing the Covid Art Contest with our two seniors!
Please save your copy preciously so you can refer to it in the fall!
We have also attached the Academic calendar.
Both calendars are available on our school website!
Monday was our last day of regular classes, so you would think everything slowed down, right? If only. Let’s take a quick peek at my Tuesday.
At 7:20 a.m. I came in, fired up two computers and turned on a kettle for my first of many cups of tea to get through the day. After a quick chat with Mrs. Cohen about a couple of students, and maybe our cats’ summer travel plans, it was time to talk about books. My first of today’s twenty-five summer reading conferences started at 8:00, and they did not stop all day long! It was a wonderful chance to discuss books I’ve loved and try to help our grade 8, 9, and 10th grade students find a few books they will love reading this summer. Not every student met with me for a conference, but over half did and most everyone has selected their 3 summer reads. Research has proven the value of summer reading, so the time is well spent.
In the middle of conference #9, the disco next door, AKA Fun Day, started up. Delighted cheers and shouts of encouragement drifted through now closed windows while I continued chatting with students about A Thousand Splendid Suns, Brave New World and Coraline. In between conferences, I reviewed report cards before we sent them out to the world (“wait, was that Mohamad with one M or two?”).
A quick bite of bunless hotdog and hamburger patty hot off the grill for lunch (gluten-free can be a challenge in Morocco at times), then pause the conferences long enough to recognize our grade 9’s for their accomplishments in the auditorium. We kept our expectations high this year, but they rose to the occasion. I’m proud of the perseverance so many of our students displayed throughout this year like no other.
A few more conferences, a few more emails, a few more lists, then it’s off to the bus so I can come back and do it all again tomorrow. Long days, even after we’re “done,” but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Have a great summer, and I look forward to hearing all about your experiences when we're back together again (maybe we’ll even be able to see each other’s smiles this time!!).

A BIG THANK YOU to our PTC moms for many hours of thinking, prepping and running in all directions to ensure a FUN day per cohort group! Thank you to our staff and student volunteers for multiple days of shifts under the sun! It has truly been a challenge to overcome all the hoops that Covid put in place for the creation of this event. YET, WE DID IT!
These kinds of events not only bring fun and joy to the children, the teachers and parents involved. But above all, these events are what brings us together and make CAS such a vibrant and unique community!
Thanks to each parent's contribution and with the help of a couple sponsors, the PTC was able to organize an event that helped us ALL finish the year on a positive note that brought back a sense of normalcy! For 3 days, each cohort group got to "forget" about covid and enjoy being together under the sun, music and games like old times!!
The ONLY profit that the PTC made through this event were the grins and the smiles on your children's faces! Seeing the joy on your children's faces was a priceless ticket indeed! So...THANK YOU to all of you for supporting the PTC!
Special Thank YOU to some of our sponsors:
Oliveri for providing us with ice cream
Coca Cola company for providing the drinks
Dear Community members,
We would like to thank all of our community members who have been actively participating in the PTC by managing to bring support and fun into our school in spite of the challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is that time of the year again where the PTC welcomes new members to its committee. The elections for the next school year officers will take place the first two weeks of September 2021.
As indicated in its mission statement, the PTC is “committed to enhancing, enriching, promoting and supporting the education of our children and fostering a sense of community within our school". In order to achieve this mission, a strong collaboration between parents, teachers, and the school administration is needed.
In the past, the PTC has been in charge of creating multiple events such as: the New Parents Welcome Breakfast, the annual Back to School Barbecue, the Halloween Celebration, the various Christmas events for students and teachers alike, the teachers appreciation events, the Spring Fair, the end of the year Music Fun Day and so forth.
We hope to see many more volunteers ....to continue creating uplifting and building fun events for our community!
Parent volunteers of the PTC cannot function effectively without the assistance of teachers and admin staff as key members of the committee so we encourage them to join too!
If you are interested in joining and giving a helping hand, it is important that you attend this meeting! Please email (ptc@cas.ac.ma) us to indicate your attendance so we can plan a Covid friendly space accordingly.
Thank you for your time, interest and support,
PTC Team
It's not a farewell, but only a goodbye that we said today to our long-term Nursery teacher Ms. Karima Bencheikh, who took leave from CAS after 27 years of service. We wish all the best to Ms. Bencheikh with the hope that you will fully enjoy your retirement.
We also wish our cleaning lady, Ms. Malika Hoummich all the best as she takes leave from CAS at the end of this month.
