Dear Community Members,
On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to personally extend a heart-felt thank you to all our community members for their continued partnership and involvement as we deal daily with the impact of the Covid 19 pandemic. With the assistance of John Randolph, we have been monitoring very closely the preventive measures taken by the school as well as the integrity of our academic programs, delivered by our highly qualified faculty members. I also would like to take this opportunity to thank the Finance Committee members for their time as we worked on the closing of 2019/20, the 2020/21 school budget and school Finances.
Finally, we are delighted to announce that we are in the process of organizing a Town hall, details of which will be communicated shortly.
Again, thank you for being part of this wonderful community and wishing you all a great week ahead.
Sofia Amrani
Board President
Last Friday, we celebrated Worlds Children’s Day. Children are the driving force that motivates us in many aspects. We are also the first example they follow, especially during these times as we learn new ways of behaving in face of the pandemic. I hope that soon our message to them will be; go and kick that ball instead of make sure you wear your mask and keep your distances before you kick that ball!
Speaking of children, we are thrilled to announce that in spite of the Covid pandemic, our enrollment numbers remain very high. Thanks to the reputation of CAS, its purposeful strategy, stability and its university preparatory curriculum, requests to join the CAS community are constantly increasing in spite of the pandemic. Please refer to Admissions and Registry Section prepared by Ms. Samira Peters and Ms. Atika Amani.
Evacuation Drill:
Speaking of measures and the safety of our children representing some 33 nationalities within our student body, yes 33 nationalities, we will be running an evacuation drill next Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. Drills are a good way to practice safety procedures in the event of a real emergency. Our Faculty and students are well prepared to respond appropriately even in the Corona virus time. Look for updates in the next editions.
Thank yous
We extend a warm thank you to the Alobaidi family for their book donation. These will definitely enhance our LS and US libraries. We wish the Alobaidi family all the best as they relocate back to their home country. They extend their gratefulness to all of our CAS Community as noted below:
Our time in Morocco has come to its end, as we are moving back to Kuwait. Therefore, me and my family would like to express our gratitude to Casablanca American School for all the support and warm feelings we found during the last six years. My children: Saud, Salman and Alzain have a lot of great memories and strong feelings for the school. This can’t be happening unless they found a great atmosphere in it. We would like to extend our thanks to all the teachers, administrative, and staff members in all levels and specialties.
My sincere thanks go to the dynamic PTC members for their everlasting support to make CAS a wonderful place for our students and staff. Once again, without any hesitation they are assisting us with our annual Staff traditional Thanksgiving dinner that will take place Tuesday, November 23rd. Thank you!
Condolences:
Our sincere condolences go to the Tazi family, and to our Grade 9 student Mohamed Tazi for the loss of his sibling Rihane. Our thoughts are with his family during these hard times!
Grade 6 Graduation:
We are most fortunate to still be able to celebrate some school activities. At the end of last June, we celebrated a modified Seniors’ Graduation Ceremony in the time of Corona. Real soon, we shall be offering our Grade 7 students their Sixth Grade Graduation Ceremony with the participation of a distinguished guest speaker. We shall be holding the ceremony in the School Auditorium and all the COVID precautionary measures will be in place. More details will be shared with everyone real soon.
Reminder about the use of Social Media:
As we prepare for some great events, it is our custom and duty to ask parents if they will extend to us the right to use their children’s photographs and videos for the purpose to share, promote and illustrate who we are and what we are. If you have any issues with this, please be reminded to send us an email letting us know that you would rather not have your child’s photograph on our Social Media pages.
Happy thanksgiving Break
John J. Randolph
Our ongoing and rolling admission process is reflective of our school’s inclusiveness and our commitment to the individual. While we are expecting more expatriate families to join us next month, 96 new students joined CAS as per November 2020 bringing up our total students number to 677. To date, we welcomed students from 33 different nationalities to our school. Our multicultural learning environment increases our student awareness of global issues, strengthens their cultural consciousness and encourages critical thinking.
CAS families are now invited to start the application process for the 2021-2022 academic year. During the application process, make sure to meet the deadlines to ensure an easy enrollment for your child. Please feel free to contact the Admissions office at speters@cas.ac.ma , with questions about the admissions process, and thank you for your interest in Casablanca American School.
Since we started school this year, we have had 23 and 10 positive cases among our students and staff consecutively. They occurred at separate dates most of the students were asymptomatic and each fulfilled their quarantine period and are already back among us. We abide by the guidelines local authorities ask us to follow to keep our population safe and out of danger.
I would like to briefly reiterate our set procedures in face of Covid-19:
Step 1: The parent or member of staff informs the school Nurse
Step 2: The nurse informs the divisional principals
Step 3: Parents in the cohort group are informed and the group itself is sent home for quarantine with a letter from the School Director.
Step 4: The infected student will be admitted to class after quarantine pending a negative Covid-19 test result.

Every day to me is World’s Children’s Day. As a parent myself, I personally think that there is not one single moment that children are not in our mind, either be it our own, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and in our particular educational context students. These children actually make a difference in our professional life. And, it is only fair to think that, as we spend half of our day interacting with them, teaching them, and learning from them and at moments reassuring them in case of confusion, doubt or stress. We, as educators have to remind ourselves that we hold the light for all these children, whose parents have trusted us to teach and care for, to guide and lead, making sure that they are the center of our attention in every aspect of the word.
To my US students: I love you and will always be here to support you.
To my US Parents: Remember, we together, hold the light for all these children.
To Covid 19: Stay away from my children!
Si Mohamed Sarhane
These remain trying times. In the seemingly dark clouds of these days, it is helpful to remember the light. The light of which I refer is the awesome responsibility we have to educate our young people. On this Day of the Child, I'm reflecting on a multitude of thoughts and sayings about children, their development, and education.
While there are many pertinent quotations that bring inspiration, one from Margaret Meade sticks out..."Children must be taught how to think not what to think". We, as educators (and you as parents), have a massive responsibility to develop the whole child. But if we do not arm them with the tools, skills, and strategies to be intentional, curious, risk-taking thinkers, are we taking our role seriously?
In this digital age, where information is at one's fingertips (some of which is inaccurate and skewed), our young people must be able to decipher trash from treasure.
They must be savvy thinkers to actively listen to a contrary perspective and respectfully articulate theirs with evidence and support. And still remain kind, compassionate, and empathetic individuals.
I believe if we teach our kids how to think they will leave our schools (and homes) to be well-adjusted, balanced, thoughtful, highly capable humans able to conquer this ever-changing world.
Happy Day of the Child.
