This past Wednesday our grades 9, 10 and 11 have sat for the PSAT. We seek to challenge our students and for this reason we encouraged our 7th and 8th graders (based on their MAP test results) to sit for the test. The PSAT is a great primer (practice test) for the SAT and also an opportunity for students to be eligible for prestigious summer university programs offered by Duke University and Johns Hopkins University's Center for Academically Talented Youth, which CAS students use to attend annually in the past.
We are all children of the World and in keeping with the established custom at CAS, we will be celebrating United Nations Day on Thursday, October 24th, the anniversary of the 1945 signing of the UN Charter. United Nations Day is more than just sharing food and costumes. It is a mindset, a commitment to making the World a better place for all. In this regard, the Lower School is super busy raising awareness through classroom activities, and ‘we will be offering a Nobel Jr. Peace Prize to a class member who is the epitome of inclusion, cooperation, teamwork, and kindness.’ Ms. Phillips will be announcing the day’s event and the winner of the prize. In the Upper School, the Student Council members, as good global citizens, are taking the lead and planning their part of this event and we expect a solid Upper School participation. We, of course, are also looking forward to sharing some delicious food and enjoying the different colorful National costumes.
Once again, for the 2nd consecutive year, we have the honor and pleasure to welcome, 1984 - 400m Olympic Hurdles Gold Medalist, Nawal El Moutaouakil, as our guest speaker for the Lower School kick off assembly on Monday, October 21. We are fortunate to have Ms. El Moutaouakil present at our event as we celebrate our IPC Olympics unit and its aim: Going for Gold.
Thank you again Ms. Hala and Ms. Fatiha for the initiative.
The CAS alumni association has also been trying to put together a proper soccer team to play against other Alumni/Teacher teams. If you are interested in getting involved in extracurricular sports for yourselves (not as coaches), then please come out to this game, and/or let me know so that I may communicate with the other interested members. The games will be held on Sundays from 10 am -12 pm
CAS is hosting an information session next week about the University of Chicago and how to apply to highly selective colleges in the United States.

Halloween is the evening before the Christian holy days of All Hallows' Day (also known as All Saints' or Hallowmas) on 1 November and All Souls' Day on 2 November, thus giving the holiday on 31 October the full name of All Hallows' Eve (meaning the evening before All Hallows' Day).
