Dear Community Members,
Welcome to this Edition of the What’s Up Cobras.
Yes! We will be celebrating 50 years in Search of Knowledge, Understanding and Excellence on Saturday, May 27th. The evening promises to be wonderful and memorable event with a Premier Class dinner, entertainment, Live Band, Auction, many Tombola prizes to win. The event will take place on the school Grounds, which makes it even more special! So join us to Honor the Past, Cultivate the Present and Build the Future of our beautiful community. Details are on the attached flyer.
This is a special time of the year for many of us especially since we remain open and accepting of all religious and spiritual practices. We want to wish our Jewish Community a happy Passover. Passover is one of the Jewish religion’s most sacred holidays and it began at sundown on Wednesday, April 5th, and ends at sundown Thursday, April 13th. This past Friday, April 8th, all Christians observed as "Good Friday", a significant day within their Holy Week, a week which marks the most sacred period of the Christian liturgical year and is a day of worshipping, sorrow, penance, fasting and almsgiving. Holy Week culminates with Easter Sunday. We wish all of our Christian colleagues and families a Happy Easter!
This is a special year and one that does not come often to have Jewish, Christian and Muslim holy holidays together at the same time. The end of Ramadan and Eid’s Celebrations will take place either, April 21st or April 22nd and we shall know for sure when our local Authorities announce it. However, as per our calendar, we shall declare Friday, April 21st, as a no-school day. Right after the end of Ramadan, Morocco will switch back to Day Light Savings Time on Sunday, April 23rd and clocks and electronical devices will move one hour forward.
As we are well into our third and last trimester, we still have many school matters to accomplish and communicate to our parents:
IB exams will take place during our Spring Break. They will start April 27th and will finish May 19th. We wish our Seniors all the best for their exams.
We also would like to pay our condolences to our security guard, Mr. Brahim Mouatadil, who lost his sister last week after years of battling disease. Our thoughts are with Brahim and his family during these difficult times.
At CAS we always like to share our events with our CAS community, however, please let us know if you do not want us to publish your child/ren picture(s) or yours on our social media platforms.
Last but not least, please follow the link to the School Calendar 2023-2024 and remember to visit our Partners' corner.
Sincerely,
John J. Randolph
Things, as always, are moving along in the Lower School!
G2-6 is MAP testing April 11, 12, 13. Please ensure your child gets a good night’s sleep and has a nutritious breakfast (if applicable).
Every year we administer the WIDA test to students in grades 1, 3, and 5. The WIDA tests English proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. Test administration is time consuming and began weeks ago and os ongoing. Please see Meghan Lydon, Student Support Coordinator, with questions.
Screenings for Preschool admissions began last Saturday and continue in the coming weeks. If you or someone you know are considering CAS for their family, please apply today as space is limited.
I want to wish Happy Passover to our Jewish community members and Happy Easter to our Christian community members!
Elizabeth Phillips
LS Principal
MAP Testing:
MAP testing for students in grades 7-10 started April 3rd through April 7th
Reasons why we give the MAP test:
MAP is used in over 1,000 international schools from 145 countries. This allows us to look at how students at CAS compare to students in the U.S. and around the world.
The results help guide instruction based on students' strengths and weaknesses.
CAS Students WILL:
Take this test seriously, show his/her best effort and use time wisely.
Respect and follow all directions, and work quietly.
If a student arrives late, does not complete the day's test in time, receives an Invalid Result (by clicking through the questions too quickly) or is asked to stop due to behavioral issues, they will be required to complete the test later in the week.

Dear Cas Community,
Admission season is well ongoing. The campus is buzzing with prospective families and students and applications are rolling in. Candidates are coming in from all over the world, for testing/observation throughout the month of April. We especially enjoy welcoming the little ones with their parents to our pre-school. Observation includes story-time that everyone, parents included, seem to enjoy. We wish all candidates all the best and we look forward to welcoming them to our beautiful family.
Thanks,
Zaineb Sajid

Last month, 5 of our LS Students, accompanied, by their Music teacher, Jakob Henzi, and Intern, Natalia Maleszewski, flew far from home to represent the home of the Cobras at MAIS Middle School Honor Choir. This is the first time that CAS Lower School Students left their comfort zone, and their country to represent CAS in such an amazing event!
Well done students and chaperones!
We are excited to announce our Ramadan Celebration for the Lower Students, this coming Friday, April 14th. Students can come wearing Moroccan Traditional Clothes as they will celebrate with Henna, a short story about Ramadan and a beautiful take away gift in addition to some delicious Moroccan Cookies.
Greetings,
Upon reading the April postcard seeing that my son was named leader of the week has pleased me. It is little successes such as these that give me faith for his growth and it is thanks to all of the teaching body that we have seen such improvements.
I hope that his academics and behavior are a reflection of our work at home. I have understood that he has improved overall as showcased in his report card for this second trimester for which I would like to sincerely thank all of the people that have been involved in his path both directly, and indirectly. I am pleased and grateful to see that this school allows for equal opportunity for success to all its students.
We extend a warm thank you to all parents for their generosity towards our workers, Security Agents, Police Agents and Bus Drivers. Baskets were distributed last week and all went home happy and with filled baskets of staples. Thank you again for your generosity.
On March 5th, 16 members of MUN travelled to Budapest to take part in KarMUN 2023. The students had the chance to attend the opening ceremony in the Hungarian Parliament, followed by 3 days of conferences where delegates debated in committees with students from eight other countries. In between all of the work, students had plenty of opportunities to sightsee and explore Budapest before returning to Casablanca on March 11. Thank you to Dr. Mitchem, Mrs. Mouak, and Mr. Lydon for chaperoning.
Dear CAS Community,
We hope this message finds you well. We are excited to announce that People to People will be organizing a Toy and Clothing Drive in partnership with the Al Ihssane Association (Lalla Hasnaa Children's Home). The drive will take place from March 27th to April 21st and we are encouraging all students, faculty, and staff to participate. We are asking for donations of new or gently used toys and clothing items but please do not donate anything that is ineffective. Donations can be dropped off in all advisory classes as well as the front and back gates. This is a wonderful opportunity for us to give back to people in need especially during the holy month of Ramadan. If you have any questions, please contact project leaders Lilya Lahlou, Fatima Ezzahra Fenniche or Sarah Spiral.
Sincerely,
Toy and Clothing Drive Leadership
Do you need a tutor? I'm excited to announce that I've assembled a team of experienced tutors that caters to grades 7 and up at international schools like CAS. Since I left CAS to pursue a PhD at Harvard, I realized that CAS could benefit from a strong tutoring program; so I started an online tutoring service. We know the IB curriculum well and have graduate degrees from Ivy League universities like Harvard, Columbia, and MIT. I would love to stay involved in the CAS community through tutoring and help students enroll in the competitive universities of their dreams insha'Allah. Please go to internationaltutors.org to learn more or email me directly at ccherubim@internationaltutors.org!
