As we are about to celebrate Thanksgiving Break, it is customary to take the opportunity to reflect on those things for which we are most thankful. We are grateful for the great community that we have; students, parents, faculty and other instructional staff, along with our administrative staff and support staff. As a school, we are also thankful for the supportive CAS parents who provide us daily with their generosity, support, positive input, constructive ideas and suggestions as we collaboratively work together on student academic achievements and success.
We wish you a restful time Thanksgiving break as we are about to tackle the second trimester with the same zeal with which we started the first trimester.
In order to be in compliance with our By-Laws, we must provide our end of year fiscal statement to our Association Members two weeks before the Fall General Association Meeting. Our Auditors, KPMG, although finished with the audit are still working on their report and, therefore, we do not anticipate that there will be enough time to send out the results to everyone to respect the two week notification. We wanted to inform our Association Members of this potential delay and anticipate that we will most likely hold our Fall meeting in early January.
We would like our students to eat healthier lunches and snacks. If you are interested to help design menu offerings along with some PTC members, faculty, parents and the Director, please send us an email as we are composing a committee of parents and staff and start the work. The committee will meet with the Cafeteria crew and will work on the best menus that we will serve on a weekly basis throughout the year.
Our aim is in part to reduce the quantity and have a better quality. We are by no means looking for master chefs , but looking forward to balanced and tasty meals!
Cobra Cash in the Lower School is a way students earn credit for positive behavior. Every time they do something that represents what a Cobra is, defined as responsible, respectful and ready to learn, they get a slip of paper 'Cobra Cash' that they can save and cash in on an incentive. Incentives were established in the Lower School at the beginning of the year, and each class chooses its own incentives. Once the students earn enough cash, they cash in and get their reward. Cobra cash reinforces positive behavior as opposed to negative behavior and its consequences.
Grade 3 group of Cobra Cash champs had the pleasure to spend their lunchtime as real pros in the Director's Conference Room. Grade 1 Champs chose to use their Cobra Cash to spend time with a special guest: Lulu. Go Champs..
Between the first Talent Show our Upper School Students organized at the Churchill Club sometime in the 1980s and this year's, it is indeed a favorite tradition at CAS. The same enthusiasm and motivation lifts our students up to challenge their capacities and trigger their desire to present what they artistically like to do. The Talent Show is their opportunity to make us proud of them.
As last year, this year's Talent Show proceeds will go to People to People. So let's show our support and encouragement by attending this year's Talent Show that will take place Saturday, December 7th at 7:00pm, in the Anne Osman Theater. We are again positive that many exciting surprises will be revealed for the pleasure of all!
Vaping is a very dangerous activity and it has become very trendy at schools everywhere amongst young people.
In this regard, it has come to the attention of the administration that some Upper School Students are also using electronic cigarettes forgetting that vaping is as bad as smoking and nicotine is a highly additive substance. We encourage all parents to discuss with their teenagers the physical damages and the vicious circle a teenager gets into just because she or he thinks that vaping or smoking looks cool. There are dangerous chemicals which get introduced into one's lungs and body from vaping or smoking that have the potential to lead to catastrophic consequences or death.
After a very successful After School Activity season, another promising one will start December 9th as many Lower School Students have signed up.
After School Activities is a means for students to enjoy what they like to do after their daily routine. It is also a time spared away from their phones and electronic devices. The shots hereafter speak for themselves.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact our ASA pros Ms. Hala (halhassan@cas.ac.ma) and/or Ms. Dahbi (fdahbi@cas.ac.ma) via email.
We wish to thank all the parents who turned in their signed photograph/video consent forms that will allow us to photograph or video, publish and share pictures, anecdotes and the great happenings that take place every day at CAS. Hard copies of the permission form are also available in the Director's office. So please stop by to say Hi and sign the form. If for some reason, you would rather not have your child/ren's pictures on our Social walls, we will make sure this is respected, but we need to be informed in writing first.
Dr. Lamia Safieddine-Delapierre will be visiting CAS during the first weeks of January to consult with our Arabic Department on instructional methods. Dr. Safieddine-Delapierre specializes in bilingual education and, in particular, the Arabic Language both classical and dialectical and either mother tongue or second language.
Congratulations to our young Upper School Cobras (Grade 6th through 8th) for their victory while competing against 7 other American schools last week end in Marrakech.
Our Cobra Boys ranked 2nd, and that trophy they brought is yet another precious one for our collection. Just like the WAC (WIDAD) and RCA (RAJA)game this week-end, there was lots of enthusiasm and suspense.
Our Cobra Girls ranked 3rd and we will be receiving our trophy soon.
Our Cobra Boys and Girls are to be praised for their team spirit, and their termination. Most of all, they are to be praised for always representing CAS with pride and honor.
Since Soccer is the Number 1 National Game in Morocco, we had the pleasure to host a friendly Soccer game with GWA this past Saturday as part of the end of Trimester 1 after school activities programs. Our Cobras fared well and we are looking forward to more to come in the next trimester.
Our CAS National Honor Society Members spent last Saturday in one of the orphanages with which CAS has always been involved. This orphanage is the same one which was visited by boxing great, Mohammed Ali, when he also visited CAS in 1996. They spent the entire day indoors and outdoors with orphans coloring, drawing, and sharing a meal. Being a CAS student ultimately means responsible citizens.
On December 17th, Santa will visit and deliver a "secret gift" to each student in the Lower School. Each class has their turn to visit Santa to receive their gift and a little treat! This year's gift will be books again as we strongly encourage reading ! What better opportunity than a long week-end to purchase books in English if you travel! This is an event that is coordinated with the PTC. More information will be shared via your room mothers in your respective WhatsApp class groups.
PS. This is not a book exchange- each parent will be responsible for purchasing a book for their OWN child.
For all those who would like to to procure photos of our Halloween Spooky Ville Celebration, please drop by the Bulletin Board outside of the Administration OFFICE (Mr Randolph) to view the contact sheets to choose your picture.
Thank you to Y A PAS PHOTO for being our official photographer of this event!
Nothing can compare with the thrill of seeing art in a museum. Consider taking the whole family to the Musée Mohammed VI d'Art Moderne et Contemporain, in Rabat. Currently and through December there is a biennale exhibition featuring women artists from the Arab world. I promise it will be an enriching experience for our young artists here at CAS. If you would like more information or have any questions, please feel free to contact ggruen@cas.ac.ma.
