We have been informed that Ms. Marcia Vitiello, who served as the Upper School Principal at CAS for years starting in 2004-2005, passed away last week. After she took leave from CAS, Ms. Vitiello decided to make Morocco her second home until she returned to the States in 2015. Ms. Vitiello lived 11 years total in Morocco before she moved to Philadelphia. Ms. Vitiello unfortunately was a victim of Covid 19, which caused her death. Ms. Vitiello will always be remembered as a highly dedicated person to her job. She had high expectations of students and her fellow colleagues. At the same time, she was a ball of energy, a beautiful soul, with so much humor, superb anecdotes, especially when she told them with her perfect French accent. We present our sincere condolences to Marcia's family, and especially to her son Domenic of whom she was so proud. Rest in Peace Ms. Vitiello.
Through proper hygiene we can all fight COVID-19. Cleaning and disinfecting reduces the risk of contacting Covid 19. We at CAS are taking some advanced precautionary measures just in case we reopen school this year. Of course we will be following and abiding by the instructions that we receive from the Moroccan authorities. This weekend, our support staff are carrying out a thorough disinfection of our campus. Prior to reopening, we shall contract with a professional company for this purpose. Other measures as we have communicated in past editions are summed up hereafter:
Wearing of face masks will mandatory for all
Our nurse and her assistant shall be checking the temperatures of students and staff daily
We will be purchasing and requiring the use of handsanitizers
Any visitor coming to school will be required to fill out a new Enrty Form prior to entering the school
These are just some of the measures that we will be applying. We will update you with more information in the next editions.
Besides the health impact, the financial devastation from Covid 19 will be felt around the world and is being compared to the Great Depression (1929-1933). In this regard, we must be alert to its impact right here in our community. Because we care for each CAS family and would like to help as much as we can, we encourage our parents to do business with one another taking into consideration their areas of expertise or business. For this purpose, we would like to create a database with CAS parents' affiliations that will be confidentially shared with our community, promoting products or services that can be of interest to some or to all. If you are interested and would like to be part of this, please send us a paragraph or two with your affiliation logo so that we may add it to our database. We love our CAS community and we are all together in this unprecedented time to lend support and assistance.
As a reminder, tuition fee payments for the Second Semester were due February 15th. Due to the upheaval caused by COVID-19, many things have been disrupted including receiving payments, however, if for some reason you have not settled your obligation to the school, we kindly ask our parents to settle these matters as well as any other fees owed to the school without further delay. Our Admissions office has sent out a reenrollment form to ascertain the intention of all parents to commit to enrolling their child/ren for 2020/21. Pre-Registration for 2020/21 is due by May 15th so please make every effort to make this payment so we may know our class rosters. Please contact Ms. Peters if you have any questions about the Pre-Registration amount or procedures. speters@cas.ac.ma
Even COVID-19 could not stop the online reunion that some former CAS teachers had last night. Some of these teachers taught at CAS as far back as 1987. What a special ZOOM session it was indeed! Thank you, Marcia Flaherty, for the initiation. Thanks to all who attended, including Tricia Shepherd, Peter McCllelan and Joan Gally, Anne Martin, Melany and Casey Jones, Larry Callahan, Aaron Reed, Rick Haller, Sue Ross, Aramis Baccalao, Nancy and Majid Slaoui, Eileen Achaoui, Anne and Keith Manring. So many great memories were shared. All have asked about CAS Alumni and wish CAS all the best.
At CAS we always prefer to stay healthy. This is the message from Nicolas who wishes you all a great week and asks that you stay fit (body and mind) by exercising and by wearing your artistic helmet when you paint.
This will be the EVENT of the year. Our CAS students do not have to be rocket stars, but they will for sure be our best allies for the conception of a video that will go viral, as together we face challenges brought upon us by COVID-19. We challenge each of them to keep our CAS spirit alive and prove, once again, that we are who we are; Cobras that despite the distance that separates us, we can share amazing moments online. Watch out for details in the next editions to come.
Thank you to mr. Jonathan Wommack, our IB Art teacher for organizing and leading our Senior Art Exhibition that took place Friday May 8th, and during which some seniors shared their artistic journey.
Seniors - May 2020 examination: With 384 files submitted and all CAS Portfolios completed, the 2020 IB EXAMS are done! Congratulations seniors for your work which, we hope, will bring the best results! On July 6th at 1:00 PM our seniors will be able to access their results via this website: https://candidates.ibo.org/. To access it you will need to provide your PIN and personal code which will be sent to you by the IB Coordinator during this week, via individual email.
Seniors - Sending results to University: As part of the services offered by IB, a maximum of six institutions worldwide can be selected (via the IB DP Coordinator) for free to send your IB results directly by IB, regardless of whether the results are to be sent in electronic or paper format. Of these six, no more than three institutions can be selected from Canada and the USA (of these three, only one for the USA). If you wish this service, please let me know before June 10th, 2020. For any additional request, you must submit it directly to IB via their public website at https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/assessment-and-exams/requesting-transcripts/.
IB1 students: The IB Deadlines calendar for 2020-2021 will be published soon. I do follow the current feedback from your teachers and I know some of you do not show up to your classes and do not complete the work. This will affect your Diploma Programme, as well as the registration to sit for the IB Diploma exams. We may be forced to change your status as IB Course Certificate candidates if you constantly miss your classes, fail your courses, and/or do not complete the required work. I sincerely hope this won't be the case.
Grade 10 students: The online meetings are going well. By the end of next week I hope to “meet” each one of you. Please be prepared for an open discussion understanding that the enrollment to any course is subject to approval based on your teacher's recommendation and your grades in the subject. You may need to reconsider the Universities where you want to apply or the field that you wish to study after high school based on the courses that you can take. For advice on your choices, don’t hesitate to contact our college counselor, Ms. Rana Haroun.
For any questions related to IB don't hesitate to contact me at azamfirescu@cas.ac.ma
Last week in LS Music, we learned about an instrument called the CARILLON. The Carillon is a set of bells in a tower, played using a keyboard or by an automatic mechanism similar to a piano roll. Here is a picture of an open-faced carillon. Students drawings of a Carillon are simply amazing!
During this confinement period many of us spend quite some time in the kitchen or doing some form of art.... so why not combine both? So... CAS community, anyone up for joining our Foccacia Bread Art Challenge?
It can be fun to do it together as a family or on your own! This challenge doesn’t ask for any special ingredients and can be a lot of fun to create! Dear students and parents,
Please read this email carefully for information about the SAT. Given that the May SAT has been canceled, the College Board is offering the following SAT dates in the Fall: August 29, September 26, and October 3.
All juniors must register for the August 29 SAT. By doing so, students will still be able to apply to university early, which increases the chances of admissions (if accompanied by a strong academic record). Remember that the SAT is not only a way to get admitted to universities, it is also a way to receive merit-based scholarships to universities, scholarships that can cover up to 100% of the costs of studies.
Students MUST study in order to prepare for the SAT. In order to support you, I am sharing with you an SAT Study Guide, which should help you, in 16 weeks, to prepare for the SAT. This means that you want to start studying for the SAT during the first week of May.
==> SAT STUDY GUIDE <==
Registration for the 2020-21 SAT administrations will open the week of May 26. To register, please read the SAT REGISTRATION INSTRUCTION.

Dear seniors,
At this time, all of you are starting to enroll in your universities. Remember that the universities will need 1. Your Final Transcript, and 2. Your IB Results.
Regarding your IB Results, Ms. Zamfirescu has sent you instructions on how to send these results to your universities. As for your final transcript, you must request it on BridgeU.
Steps:
1. Log in to BridgeU, go to "Universities," then "Applications."
2. Choose the university you are enrolling in:
For U.K. Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Conditional/Unconditional" and 3. "Firm Acceptance/Insurance Acceptance"
For all other Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Accepted," and 3. "Attending."
3. By completing the previous step, I will know which university to send your final transcript to.
Please also update the admissions results for the universities you will not be enrolling in.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, admissions for 2020/21 have actively continued at CAS since the beginning of this year. It is our pleasure to inform our community that many prospective students have applied to CAS and that some have been accepted after tests or observations have been conducted. If you know of relatives, friends or other interested families who would like to attend our institution, please contact, Ms. Samira Peters, at the Admissions Office at: speters@cas.ac.ma
