Dear Parents,
We are finally attempting to get back to normal life at CAS. It looks like we shall be busy until the end of the year with many happenings both at the Lower and Upper Schools; Movie Night, Sports Tournament, TEDx and Spelling Bee to name a few. A special thanks goes out to all of our PTC members who have been working diligently to help the different levels of the school with the events they are organizing. Please consider volunteering with the PTC to assist at any of the upcoming school events for it is a wonderful way to help and to connect with the school community.
As we are getting closer to the end of this year, we want to inform our community that we have hired most of our new faculty for the 2022-2023 academic year. It is commonplace at international schools worldwide that teachers seek teaching positions elsewhere for a host of reasons. As in the past, a list of the new Faculty and Interns and their Biographies will be shared with our community by our Communication Manager. In the meantime, I would like to thank Ms. Phillips and Mr. Sarhane for their input and valuable assistance in recruiting especially since COVID has completely changed this process and all of our interviews were conducted online.
One of the measures taken worldwide is to vaccinate citizens to counteract the spread of the Corona virus and protect the vulnerable. CAS has taken all measures to fight this pandemic and has followed the local authorities, CDC and WHO and facilitated the vaccination of our students aged 12 to 17 years old through the use of the MASSAR code. Due to circumstances beyond our control, there were many errors in a significant number of our students' Pass Vaccinal information. These errors have recently been corrected by the local authorities. Please double check your child’s pass vaccinal and please let us know if there are still errors. I sincerely thank our Board President, Omar Laafoura, for assisting with this matter and Ms. Halima Sarhane for her countless hours spent on rectifying the errors. On the other hand, for those parents who are asking for vaccination for children under the age of 11 years old, we are still awaiting instructions from the National Education Department.
After consulting with our senior administrative staff and our Board of Governors, school hours during the holy month of Ramadan will be from 8:30am to 3:30pm. School Doors will be open at 8:10am to receive students. More details will be shared with parents soon as we get closer to Ramadan which is expected to start either Saturday, April 2nd or Sunday, April 3rd. Also please be reminded of the time change in Morocco which will take place, Sunday, March 27th at 2:00 am. Clocks and electronic devices will move one hour backwards.
Soon, we shall be running another Evacuation Drill, which will be an unannounced one. After the first successful drill which took place last month, we are all well prepared to handle another drill without notice.
Periodically students get head lice for one reason or another. This is the season for lice! Please make sure you check your child’s hair to ensure these parasites are not taking refuge in your child’s head. If you do see evidence of them, please check with your doctor or local pharmacist to use the appropriate treatment to get rid of them.
Once again, if you do not want your child’s picture to be published in our social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, School Website or Newsletter) please let us know especially since we like to catch special moments and share them with our wider Community.
Finally, this is your school and you are always welcome to share your ideas, concerns or feedback about your child by contacting your child’s teacher first, your principal second and, if need be, my office.
Sincerely,
John Randolph
School Director
Ms. Peters welcoming Ryan Boukaa
Dear Parents, students, and our wider community,
Wow! what a time in the Upper School Division as there is so much to share with our community:
It seems as if all Upper School students and Faculty are eager for projects and for actions, from People-To-People to Movie Night to The Talent Show, Debate, Rotary Club and athletic tournaments organized by our PE Department Head Mr. Ghandi Najmeddine. Almost each US student would like to leave a mark by carrying a special athletic, humanitarian, social or academic event. This is understandable after 2 pandemic and long years. Cobras just can’t be still.
Thank you to the Upper School Student Council for being the steering gear carrying in your plates so much in addition to your academics. Thank you, faculty, for always being present when necessary. Special thank you this weekend to John Griffith and Matthew Lydon for getting the Basketball Cobras this far. Kudos to Taj Saddiqi and Majid Benjelloun (alumnus) for getting the CAS Soccer Team this far. Congratulations to Ms. Haroun, the College Counselor for the spelling bee. Thank you to Ms. Mitchem, Ms. Pochard, Ms. Sitoianu, Mr. Marino and Ms. Myrsini for the Movie Night and to Mr. and Mrs. Randolph for the most delicious popcorn. Congratulations go utmost to all participants, players, organizers and helpers among CAS students.
With much pride, I would like to congratulate Rita Bennani, Alia Kafil and El Hassan El Rhissassi for their reaching excellence at the different debates that took place on a national and international level. Another congratulation goes to Yanis Hodaibi, former CAS student and previous winner of the Robert Sills Award. With great teachers on board, such as Robert Money, our English Department Head, all debates are possible!
Welcome to Ryan Boukaa who just got accepted to Grade 11. I’m positive Ryan will adjust well and will be a perfect fit in the Upper School Division. Again, welcome Ryan and his family as Community members.
Finally, Upper school students: when you cross the street to meet your driver or your parent, please pay a close attention to your phone as pick pocketing is not far.
Have a restful weekend and see you all refreshed on Monday

March 13, 2020. The Moroccan government closed schools. March 18, 2020. CAS was one of the, if not first, schools to go online. Today is the two year anniversary of the start of Distance Learning. A modern day pandemic. An event that forever changed the lives of parents, teachers, and especially students. I'm not writing this to cast a dark cloud on what seems to be lifting restrictions and a return to a sense of life pre-Covid but to voice gratitude and pride.
I am proud of our students and how well they managed a new way of "doing school"- both online and hybrid and living life with masks and PCR and antigen testing...taking it in stride and really showing us what resilience (and adaptability) is. I am thankful for our students and how they supported each other and their teachers (and sometimes even parents) over the past two years.
I am so thankful to parents for the support they gave to CAS, its leaders, and staff over the past two years. In such an uncertain time, with fears running high, you trusted us to continue educating and supporting your children. We are forever grateful for your encouraging emails, calls, and care packages. We
I am so proud of the CAS staff and how they, with only two days training and preparation, transitioned from teaching face-to-face to fully online. Teachers were the ultimate risk takers- trying new digital platforms, spending time scrolling through online groups and resources to maximize the online learning experience all while experiencing the extreme challenge of confinement. Some were further challenged by being thousands of miles from family. I am so thankful to our teachers for their trust to navigate such an unprecedented event.
On the note of some sense of life pre-Covid, I want to let you know of a few upcoming events in the Lower School.
Saturday, March 19--> Final round of the NHS's Lower School Spelling Bee. This is a live event for participants and parents...Good luck to all finalists!
Friday, March 25--> Oral Health and Hygiene Assemblies facilitated by the Health Promotion Committee...thank you to Mrs. Youssefi and Mr. Tajmouati for sharing their expertise with our students. The assemblies will be the first student assembly since 2020, albeit with masks.
Friday, March 25--> G6 Trimester II music performance...G6 students have been in music this trimester's Arts rotation. G6 parents are invited to the Upper School music room for a brief performance. Please refer to communication from the LS Music Department.
Thursday, March 31--> the Family Outreach Committee presents Spring into Literacy Night at 18h00. While this is virtual, we hope future FOC events will switch to in person.
Parents, please be on the lookout for an email in the coming days with reminders, specifically about arrival and dismissal.

Thank you Ms. Alina Zimefirscu for organizing the Grade 10 IB Choices meeting. And thank you to all the IB Teachers who gave up some of their time to help Grade 10 students make their choices as they will soon start the IB courses.
Our school will start a new NEASC accreditation cycle next year. CAS has been accredited by NEASC (the New England Association of Schools and Colleges) since 1993. NEASC "is an independent, voluntary, nonprofit membership organization which connects and serves over 1500 public, independent, and international schools in the US and worldwide. Founded in 1885, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) has been working to establish and maintain high standards for all levels of education longer than any other accreditation agency in the United States." PSI, (Pechersk School International, Kyiv, Ukraine) launched a student-driven art movement #ArtForPeaceInUkraine. The goal is to spread a message of peace through the art of children. Students from all over the globe are creating their own art pieces about what peace means to them and are uploading them to a padlet created by PSI. The tablet will be spread across the international school community. This temporary exhibit is on the ground floor of the Randolph Building, near the LS French classrooms.
CAS students, K-5, with the guidance of their art teachers, Ms. Gi and Ms. Sekkat, realized their own ArtForPeace installation inspired by symbols of peace, the fanciful decorative motifs of the Ukraine, and sunflowers (the unofficial symbol of the Ukraine).

2022 started off on a fun note for Grades 7 & 8 that made the most of the two weeks of online school at the beginning of this new year to put together these projects for their Design Technology class. A big thank you to Selena Raad and Mafalda Mota for helping feature their peers' projects!
The PTC is happy to announce the return of Spring Fair this year! The date for the event will be moved to Sunday May 15th!
This will be open to CAS community members and their guests!
We hope to see you all there!
People 2 People is happy to announce that this year the Talent Show will be held on Saturday, May 7th, 2022! Auditions were held on March 11th, 14th, 16th and 18th. This year's Talent Show will help raise funds for Rotaract Club ENCG. This non-profit organization is based in Settat, in the Casablanca-Settat region and its main focus is to help children in need. They have worked on Ramadan projects, school renovations, and blood donations. This event will not only be a way of donating money to Rotaract Club ENCG, but it will also be a means of raising awareness for less fortunate children.
Stay tuned for more information as the event approaches!
Congratulations to our star debaters Alia Kafil (Gr.11), Elhassan Rhissasi (Gr.11) and Rita Benani (Gr.8) for their achievements and being featured in the media!
Alia's passion for debate started when she joined the middle school debate team at CAS back in grade 6 and MUN. During COVID, Alia joined the Moroccan National Debate Team (MNDT) and has been team captain for the past couple of years leading her team first for two consecutive years at the Japanese Parliamentary Schools Debate.
Hassan El Rhissassi joined MNDT this past summer 2021 and has participated with Alia in the Japanese Parliamentary Schools Debate where his role in the team was as the third speaker and Alia was the reply speaker (second speaker). Together with the team, they led a spectacular debate where all 9 judges unanimously decided that MNDT would be the first team to win the Japan PDA World Championship back to back, two years in a row! Kuddos to Alia and Hassan who have had to pull all-nighters, due to the time zone difference, to participate virtually in the Japan PDA from 3 am to 10 am !
Rita Bennani (Gr.8) is also an MNDT member and she is part of the development team. She was recently chosen to be one of the first Moroccans and North Africans to be part of the World Individual Debate and Public Speaking Championship! The Championship is an innovative five-day event that requires students to interact and collaborate with like-minded peers from diverse and different schools, cultural backgrounds, and countries. She is currently preparing intensely for this competition! Rita's first experience in debate as well started at CAS in grade 6 and she pursued debating by joining CAS' Model United Nation's club.
At CAS, we have started processing admission applications for the 2022-2023 school year. Screening dates for Nursery and Kindergarten applicants will be shared shortly.
