Friday, June 5th was the last day of E-Learning. What an experience we have lived together; students, teachers, faculty, administrative staff and parents! We had to adapt to new situations and nothing was left to chance. Serious commitment to work was the driving force of our teachers and students alike and I’m proud to be part of our wonderful CAS Community. I take the liberty to quote Mr. Nasser Bouazza, one of our parents who has children both in the Lower School and Upper School: ‘’Thanks to confinement, we are aware now of the major responsibilities that lay in the hands of teachers, those of keeping Lower School students focused, and those of making sure Upper School students are proactive and ready to start work promptly every day.” Mr. Bouazza adds, “Compared to other schools, we are by far the best school regarding E-Learning, and I congratulate every teacher for their excellent job!”
We are very proud of our Principals and members of our instructional staff who answered this challenge head on and I join Mr. Bouazza in his congratulations and I wish you all good luck grading and getting Report Cards Ready.
As is the custom, we always have many great things to share with you. I would like to thank the yearbook committee and more particularly our wonderful students, Sabrine Benzakour and Naser-Allah Chaouki, who have been spending hours and hours reviewing, adjusting, editing and making sure the 2020 yearbook reflects CAS in its true depiction. Our yearbook is taking shape and we will soon inform our Community when it will be available.
Graduation is around the corner and will take place on Saturday, June 13th. Thank you parents and students for paying attention to the guidelines and timetable sent by the Upper School Principal, Simohamed Sarhane, whom I sincerely thank for making sure that every little detail has not been overlooked. My sincere appreciation also is extended to Fatiha Sajid, Samira Peters, Atika Amani, our wonderful Upper School Assistant, Amina Alami, and our IT department for their hard work in preparation of the Class of 2020 ceremony. I regret that I will not be able to attend in person!
Due to the restrictions and assembly limits imposed upon everyone because of COVID-19, we must inform our community that the graduation ceremony to be held at the school will be restricted to the immediate members of the Senior's family only. This means parents and siblings only! Mr. Sarhane has communicated the schedule to which everyone must adhere in order to arrive at school five (5) seniors at a time for the graduation. The schedule is designed to address the commencement activity of five (5) seniors and, once they have departed, an additional five (5) are expected to arrive at the school.
Kindly see below a couple of reminders:
- Check out our Parents Database for services, companies that might be of interest to you
- Pay close attention to End of Year Procedures shared by the US and LS Principals
- Tuition fees and pre-registration for 2020/21 are due and we thank parents for honoring this deadline
- Hereafter is the Uniform Supplier’s email, Ms. Kenza Belbacha, if you would like to order CAS uniforms for your children ahead of time: kbelbacha@hotmail.com
Finally, since 1973, CAS has been welcoming great teachers who have made enormous contributions to our school. It is unfortunate that we sometimes have to say good bye to some at the end of their term. I would like to share with you, Ms. Melissa Brockway’s experience at CAS and in Morocco in general. It’s simply wonderful and we shall miss our Melissa as we will miss the other committed teachers who will be leaving us at the end of this academic year.
Sincerely yours,
John Randolph
School Director
Leaving CAS has been a hugely bittersweet decision for me, and I am grateful to the school and community for welcoming me into the fold these past three years. What a joy it has been. I have truly loved coming to work every day - from morning msemen in the cafeteria, to dedicated students sticking around after school for extra feedback. I’ve had so many days brightened up by students who rush into the room to chatter about a novel they just finished, or students who have just the right joke at just the right time.
And Morocco! Be still, my heart! I will treasure the hundreds of hours I've spent posted up at an outdoor Maarif cafe, sipping sugary mint tea while reading my students’ paragraphs, taking breaks to watch the sunset change the city sky, or to watch a wobbly toddler chase a flock of pigeons. I'll miss the mornings in my neighborhood when the only other person in the bakery is a woman in a magenta leopard-print djellaba (the colorful patterns here are unrivaled). I’ll remember the vegetable vendor who let me sit down for ftour with them, and the women who made the rugs that turned my house into a home. I already can’t wait to come back and visit.
Graduation, as Mr. Randolph said, is around the corner. By now our seniors and their parents have received their Graduation Program. Seniors, as we will celebrate with you your special day, remember:
" BE BOLD, BE COURAGEOUS, BE YOUR BEST...."

Thank you for such a wonderful school year! The 2019-20 school year did not end as we planned but we are a stronger and more resilient community because of it.
All information related to Distance Learning in the Lower School, including End of Year checkout, can be found on the Parent Portal <https://lowerschool.cas.ac.ma/>
It is imperative the schedule for checkout is followed, even if that means multiple trips to campus. This will ensure efficient and organized checkout. Thank you for understanding. Please email your room parent, your child's teacher, or Ms. Phillips with any questions.
Thank you
Elizabeth Phillips
"Have you ever wondered if there are parallel realities? Or what the shape of our universe is? Or how stars produce the very elements that make up your body? Well students in Mr. Cherubim's IB Physics class do. Check out Mr. Cherubim's science blog, 'eta Earth,' featuring articles written by some of our graduating seniors at CAS in which they explore these ideas and many more. This week's post is from Thomas Kweon. Read on to find out the fate of the universe and how 'you are most definitely an almost impossible entity.' Be sure to take a look at previous posts from Yann Bonzom and Oscar Basuyaux on the oddities of quantum mechanics and the astrophysical processes that created all the atoms in your body! 2021 May Examinations IB Deadlines
Talking IB: Each one of the educational programs offered by IB is fully committed to the development of students, according to the IB Learner Profile (IBLP). Nowadays, being “open-minded” is one of the IBLP traits that comes a lot into my mind. The COVID-19 pandemic gives us a lesson on how things can go in a completely different direction than expected and how being flexible and open-minded helps us to adapt to the situation. At a lower level, the lesson to keep is that a different outcome (like, for example, not being right away accepted to the course one wants to study in IB or to the university program one wants to follow after high school) should inspire us to persevere and to improve ourselves. As well, it should encourage us to be open and welcome the new opportunities showing up when changing a direction.
Seniors - Sending results to University (LAST CALL): As part of the services offered by IB, a maximum of six institutions worldwide can be selected (via the IB DP Coordinator) for free to send your IB results directly by IB, regardless of whether the results are to be sent in electronic or paper format. Of these six, no more than three institutions can be selected from Canada and the USA (of these three, only one for the USA). If you wish this service, please let me know before June 12th, 2020. For any additional request, you must submit it directly to IB via their public website at https://www.ibo.org/programmes/diploma-programme/assessment-and-exams/requesting-transcripts/
Seniors - May 2020 examination: On July 6th at 1:00 PM seniors will be able to access their results via this website: https://candidates.ibo.org/. The required PIN and personal code will be provided by the IB Coordinator, via individual email. In this document, you can read the details about the meanings of the codes used by IB in case of non-awarding an IB Diploma as well what are the steps to follow in case you want to submit an Enquiry upon results to IB.
Juniors (grade 11 students): You can now access the calendar of IB Deadlines - May 2021 examination. Use this summer to work as much as possible for your IB Assessments. Don’t hesitate to contact your teachers if necessary.
For any questions related to IB don't hesitate to contact me at azamfirescu@cas.ac.ma

This spring, CAS' volunteering club (People to People) used the funds from the P2P Talent Show to provide new clothes, shoes, and boots for 57 local children in need. Student leaders initiated the collaboration with SOS Village to coordinate this donation. Your ticket purchases made this happen, CAS community!

We have created a page on our What's Up Cobras entitled: Together We Can, which enlists all of our parents affiliations submitted so far. Please click HERE to access it. If you are interested in being part of it, please send us a small descriptive and the logo of your company by email. The purpose is to encourage parents to do business with one another taking into consideration their areas of expertise or business.
Dear students,
As you will enter your first year of the International Baccalaureate program next year, we want to ensure your success in this program so you can get into your dream university and pursue your passions.
First, please note that all grade 11 students will take the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) on Saturday, October 17, 2020, at the school. This test will prepare students to take the SAT, which is a university admissions test used by universities in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and in several universities in Europe. The SAT is not only a way to get admitted to universities, but it is also a way to receive merit-based scholarships to universities, scholarships that can cover up to 100% of the costs of studies.
Second, all grade 11 students will have the opportunity to take the SAT on December 5, 2020, March 13, 2021, and May 8, 2021. We recommend that all students plan to take the test at least twice during their junior year. Waiting until grade 12 to take the SAT will be detrimental to your university applications as you might miss some important deadlines and score lower on the SAT.
You must register for the December 5th SAT now, as with the COVID pandemic, all seats for the 2020/2021 academic year might fill up fast. Actually, you will be able to register for all three 202/2021 dates, if you choose to. Here are the instructions to register for the SAT.
Third, all grade 11 students will participate in College Counseling workshops throughout the year that will guide them to prepare their university applications for the following year. These workshops will be led by the College Counselor, Rana Haroun, and your participation will be mandatory.
Lastly, students must study for the SAT to optimize their scores. Please find resources to help you prepare for the SAT on our website (you will need your CAS log in information to access the website). You can also review the SAT STUDY GUIDE.
Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions about testing or university admissions.
Dear seniors,
At this time, all of you are starting to enroll in your universities. Remember that the universities will need 1. Your Final Transcript, and 2. Your IB Results.
Regarding your IB Results, Ms. Zamfirescu has sent you instructions on how to send these results to your universities. As for your final transcript, you must request it on BridgeU.
Steps:
1. Log in to BridgeU, go to "Universities," then "Applications."
2. Choose the university you are enrolling in:
For U.K. Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Conditional/Unconditional" and 3. "Firm Acceptance/Insurance Acceptance"
For all other Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Accepted," and 3. "Attending."
3. By completing the previous step, I will know which university to send your final transcript to.
Please also update the admissions results for the universities you will not be enrolling in.
Quote: "Back in 2011, a physicist at the University of Sydney went viral after he placed a grape in the microwave and filmed the fiery aftermath. And oddly enough, scientists couldn't explain the phenomenon until quite recently. A March 2019 study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences reported that the fruity fireball occurs as a result of the loose electrons and ions that cluster to form plasma when grapes get hot.
