This has been a very unusual year and as its end is approaching fast, we ask that parents pay close attention to the End of Year procedures summarized in this edition by our Lower and Upper School Principals.
Report cards will be sent June 16th. We kindly ask that all parents honor any outstanding tuition and fees owed to the school as no report cards will be released if outstanding monies have not been settled.
In the subsequent editions, we will concentrate more on communicating to parents how the school is preparing for the upcoming academic year, which we expect to be the new Normal.
As we are finalizing the last details for this year's Seniors Graduation, this particular year has been a landmark for all students and for our seniors in particular. Many have been accepted to great colleges and universities in the US and abroad. They will embark soon on a journey to their next level of education. CAS has well prepared them with mindsets and qualities that will assist them in their journey for their future endeavors. With the unconditional love and attention of their parents, I trust they will embrace the World with open hands. Go Cobras!
As we are putting into shape our 2020 yearbook, I would like to heartedly thank our yearbook committee for their hard work and the time spent to make it happen in this environment. Yes, despite an unusual year great memories with a plethora of anecdotes will remind us that nothing can deprive us at CAS of our joy to learn and share. We are all eager to see this year’s edition.
Again, I can never thank enough our principals, our teachers, administrative and support staff for an amazing job they have been doing during these unprecedented times. My gratitude goes to every student who everyday, in the midst of the turmoil COVID-19 has created has participated in distance learning in order to seek knowledge. The enthusiasm exhibited by our Grades 4-6 students has brought joy to me every Friday that I have been interacting with them to see the sparkles in their eyes as we read, converse and share views together. I have also taken a real pleasure to meet with the different groups of the US students. We converge, and never diverge. Democratically we have discussed and concluded some school related matters. Together indeed, Learners, Educators and Parents, we have kept the boat afloat, each in their own respective area.
Thank you!
John J. Randolph
As the school year comes to a close, I want to thank each of you for your support, flexibility, and understanding during the eleven weeks of Distance Learning. Friday, June 5 will be the last instructional day of the 2019-20 school year.
End of Year checkout is tentatively scheduled June 12-19. Please find the Lower School’s End of Year Checkout Plan included in the attached parent letter. It is imperative community members follow the plan to ensure everyone’s health and safety as well as efficient operation in closing the school year.
A video example of the checkout procedure will be sent to Lower School parents next week.

Exams for the Upper School students have started and I urge everyone to be prompt for theirs as this is the last line to cross. Exams will finish June 5th, and I wish all our Upper School Students a successful end of year.
Our routines have drastically changed since mid-March and so will our End of Year Procedures that we have to perform, respecting our protocol of social distancing and avoiding gatherings. Staggered schedules are put in place for this purpose, as well as the following prevention measures:
- Hand-sanitizers will be available for use at the front gate
- Masks are mandatory and everyone is expected to wear one
- Social distancing will be closely monitored.
If students feel physically vulnerable during these times, they need to stay home and alternative arrangements will be made for their clearance provided they communicate with the school.
End of Year checkout will take place at the Front Gate.
No Lower School students or community member will be permitted to enter or exit from the Front Gate
No Upper School business will be conducted from the back Gate
Lockers will be cleared out in September.
Thank you for your collaboration and understanding.

Thank you to Mr. Eric Rose, our IB English Teacher for initiating Online Summer Reading. I encourage Upper Schoolers to take part and benefit from this opportunity offered to them. Please see details published in this edition by Mr. Rose.
Si Mohamed Sarhane
Upper School Principal
Dear All,
We are pleased to inform you that this summer we are launching a summer reading program for the Upper School. There is a substantial body of research that shows students who read steadily over the summer improve their reading skills and are less likely to experience the “summer slide” where they forget or lose key skills that they were taught over the course of the school year.
After a review of this research, we have designed a summer reading program based on proven effective practices. To this end, Mr. Rose will be meeting with each student to help them select three books to read over the summer, one for each month. What is key is that students pick books at their level and that they will enjoy reading. Though reading can be a solitary activity, we are encouraging peers to form reading circles and share their thoughts and insights as they move through their books. Students will be encouraged to read all three books, but they may skip one if their summer plans interfere with consistent reading.
Students will be expected to participate in our private discussion on Goodreads once a week, where they will post updates on their books and be able to see what their peers are reading. Students will also be expected to complete a short creative project for each book to share with the class. When we return to school in the fall, students will also use one of their books as the basis for an in-class essay.
We are encouraging our students to read for 20 minutes every day in a quiet place with no distractions from electronic devices. This is meant to help them develop healthy reading and studying habits. Those habits formed now when they have fewer pressures can help them when we come back together again at the end of the summer.
As with all we do, your support is vital. You can help by regularly checking in with your child about how his or her reading is progressing. Talk to them about what they are reading and encourage them to read every day. You can also encourage them to stay on top of the blog assignments and to reach out to us if they are struggling with any of the books they have chosen.
If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at my school email: emrose@cas.ac.ma.
It has been a great pleasure working with your child this past year, and I look forward to our continued collaboration as we work to help them achieve their goals and dreams.
Warm regards,
Eric Rose

Chers parents,
Eric Rose

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, admissions for 2020/21 have actively continued at CAS since the beginning of this year. It is our pleasure to inform our community that many prospective students have applied to CAS and that some have been accepted after tests or observations have been conducted. After graduating from CAS in 2006, Bouchra Boudoua joined Central Saint Martins college of Art and Design. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in spatial design.
Attracted to her Berber heritage and roots, Bouchra has taken the jump in 2016 to launch her line of ceramics. Since, she has travelled the world and has been exposing and exporting her talent in various cities: New York, Abu Dhabi and Paris to name a few. In 2019, Bouchra was chosen amongst several artisans and designers to design the tableware for the Dior "common Dior" ground dinner at the Palais Bahia during the famous 2020 Dior Cruise Spring Marakech Fashion Show.
Bouchra works from her creative studio in Marrakech where she collaborates with local potters to create both functional and decorative ceramics. In an aim to preserve certain age-old techniques of Moroccan craftsmanship she reinterprets traditional pottery to create pieces that simultaneously go back in time and live boldly in our modern day homes.

Dear seniors,
At this time, all of you are starting to enroll in your universities. Remember that the universities will need 1. Your Final Transcript, and 2. Your IB Results.
Regarding your IB Results, Ms. Zamfirescu has sent you instructions on how to send these results to your universities. As for your final transcript, you must request it on BridgeU.
Steps:
1. Log in to BridgeU, go to "Universities," then "Applications."
2. Choose the university you are enrolling in:
For U.K. Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Conditional/Unconditional" and 3. "Firm Acceptance/Insurance Acceptance"
For all other Universities: select 1. "Mark Sent" 2. "Accepted," and 3. "Attending."
3. By completing the previous step, I will know which university to send your final transcript to.
Please also update the admissions results for the universities you will not be enrolling in.
Have you seen or heard of the launch of the SpaceX's Falcon 9 Rocket with NASA astronauts? Falcon 9 is the new era of human spaceflight designed by Elon Musk. For those who have missed the launch you can check it out here!
"Falcon 9 is a reusable, two-stage rocket designed and manufactured by SpaceX for the reliable and safe transport of people and payloads into Earth orbit and beyond. Falcon 9 is the world’s first orbital class reusable rocket. Reusability allows SpaceX to refly the most expensive parts of the rocket, which in turn drives down the cost of space access."
