Dear Community Members,
Welcome to this Edition of the What’s Up Cobras.
As usual, we have a lot to share with you.
First, following the devastating earthquake that hit Turkey and the historic loss of life, I would like you to join with me to present our sincere condolences to the victims in Syria and Turkey. For those who have families in these respective countries, we pray that your relatives are safe.
The 50th anniversary Committee has been meeting intensively to plan, organize and brainstorm about this event. We are happy to know that some former teachers and Alumni students are ready to cross the oceans to celebrate CAS journey with us on Saturday, May 27th.
Stay tuned as more will be shared soon!
As a reminder, please remember to pick up your child/ren during the early Dismissal Day next Wednesday, February 22nd.
Finally, don’t forget to scroll down as a lot of info is shared by the principals and other Staff Members below.
Have a great weekend
Sincerely,
John J. Randolph
As always, there is lots going on in the Lower School! Be on the lookout for details about upcoming events such as Literacy Week and the Family Outreach Committee's Math Night. As well, the PTC has several early spring events planned for Preschool and Lower School students and families.
We are in the middle of mid-year Fountas & Pinnell literacy testing in grades Prefirst-Six in order to assess students' reading levels. This enables teachers to individualize instruction, determine student progress, and develop next steps in your child's learning.
Winter MAP reports should have been sent home with students in grade two-six. Teachers work with students to understand the purpose of MAP tests and set goals for growth. MAP data is important because it too is used to individualize instruction, determine student progress, and develop next steps in your child's learning.
In the ongoing effort to be consistent across the school, please ensure your child is wearing the correct CAS uniform. Please plan in advance to ensure uniforms are clean and dry to wear each day.
Instruction begins promptly at 08h00, Monday-Friday. It is helpful to lay out uniforms, pack backpacks, and make lunch the night before to avoid the early morning rush. This ensures you can leave the house with enough time to get to school.
Have a restful weekend

In the last edition, we have featured People To People. We are proud of our Upper School students as they show their involvement through the different clubs and committees that they have formed this year. All these young men and women are true ambassadors in the field they are representing. In this edition, I would like to feature the Young Engineer's Club:
The “Young Engineer’s Club” is an Upper School student-run volunteer club that aims to familiarize students with engineering and plausibly arouse their interest in it. It will be hosting a variety of events in relation to engineering in order to allow students to experience concepts corresponding to the profession. The club further advocates a kinesthetic approach to learning in order to permit members to immerse themselves in the club in a more enthusiastic demeanor. The club serves as a healthy space for CAS students to learn more about an occupation they are interested in. The club will also ensure that they come in contact with professionals who will allow them to get a better insight into the line of employment. Hence, we hope to achieve the following outcomes:
Introduce students to engineering through conversations with top engineers
Allow them to experience hands-on activities that replicate what different engineering jobs would entail
Provide networking opportunities that could lead to further development of educational opportunities like internships and summer programs
Thank you Malak Louimine, in Grade 11 for chairing this club, and thank you Mr. Farid Javadov , the US Science Teacher, for guiding all the young ambassadors on this club.

Good morning! My name is Sara Ziouti. I'm in Grade 9 and I'm new to CAS this year. Before joining CAS, I was at the British School . My parents have chosen CAS for me for its Educational System that aligns with their vision. CAS academic Program is challenging and I'm up for the challenges. The areas that I'm improving in are Maths and English.
When I finish at CAS, I would like to further my Law Studies in the U.S.A where my sister resides.
Socially, I made good friends at CAS and my advice to any new student to CAS is to be ready for hard work and to be nice so that you can make friends easily.
Our Robotics ASA CAS Cobra team participated in the First Lego League competition on Saturday, February 4. CAS was the only American/International school represented in this competition out of 36 regional schools from Casablanca-Settat province. Our CAS Cobra team presented a wonderful renewable energies project using solar energy as well as built, coded, and programmed their robot to undergo 3 different missions. We would like to congratulate the following students and their coach, Ms. Robin Webster on their participation:
Emilie Gaubicher, Adam Chraibi, Hassan Benjelloun, Othmane Aouni, Si Qi Li, Jordan Kuetche. A special thank you also goes to Ms. Fatiha Dahbi who assisted in chaperoning the team. Well done, team!

The donation will go towards furniture, clothing, food, and hygiene supplies.
A big thank you to all our sponsors who have supported us in making this event happen:

We had a successful training day this past Saturday at the AIM(American International Medical) Academy. I’m proud to announce that we have 14 of our staff members that are CPR and first aid certified.
The session was lectured with the lead of four physicians hands-on practice
First Aid Skills adopted:
Heimlich manoeuvre: choking infant, adult, pregnant.
Obstructed Airways: partial vs total in case of foreign objects in upper airways.
Haemorrhaging: stop bleeding from upper lower extremities using a tourniquets/application of pressure
Évacuation of victim from unsafe environment
Unconscious victim & the use of a Defibrillator.
Delivering proper CPR and First Aid can make a difference between life and death. This training gives CAS employees the potential to save lives by becoming familiar with emergency scenarios by handling them promptly and correctly when encountered with such life threatening events.

Grade 12 students are focused these days on submitting their work to the IB for examination. The pressure is high, but we are confident about their success.
Grade 11 students started their second trimester in the IB program.
During this trimester, we plan to finalize the selection of HL (higher level) or SL (standard level) for all their classes.
The writing of an Extended Essay (EE) process for the class of 2024 has begun. The EE is an independent, self-directed research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper. As part of the IB Core, passing the Extended Essay is compulsory for the candidates aiming for an International Baccalaureate Diploma. On March 8th, we will hold the Extended Essay Seminar facilitating the understanding of requirements in each subject.
On February 8th, six IB students represented CAS in the World Climate Debate at EL YAKADA school in Rabat. The Association of IB schools in Morocco organized the debate having the primary goal of discussing the implementation plan of the last COP 27 held in Egypt in the light of the 13th Goal of the UN Sustainable Development: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. Our students did an outstanding job presenting and answering many questions during the debate.
Grade 10 students attended the IB Fair - "Discover the IB Courses," where they had the chance to meet and speak with all IB teachers, juniors, and seniors willing to share their experiences. We are looking into possibly organizing some assistance to an IB class for them. The individual meetings with the IB Coordinator will start after April 1st.
For more information on the IB program at CAS contact the IB Coordinator, Ms. Alina Zamfirescu at azamfirescu@cas.ac.ma.
