Dear Parents,
Welcome back to another great what’s Up Cobras with its enriching mix of events, highlighted in this edition by our different departments.
As we are gearing up towards Trimester II which starts, November 22nd, we are happy that this school year is now on a solid footing. Since October 1st, we have continued to keep our primary mission in mind. Education is indeed a partnership between parents, students and staff, however, it does not start and end at the school house, but involves the whole community and especially one's home. It is a holistic current that leads our Cobras to educational success because all parties are involved in its process. This said there is always room for bigger achievements and we count on all our members to take a part not only in their child’s education, but also in their child’s social life. At CAS, we believe that academics are important, however, compassion, respect, kindness, and understanding are also of upmost concern to us.
Please remember to speak to your child frequently about the mistreatment or bullying of others and always encourage them to speak out against marginalizing others. Take some time at dinner to ask about your child's day at school and ask if they feel comfortable and happy to attend school each day or if there is someone who is not acting appropriate towards them.
Lost and Found
Due to the number of items that students lose, the Lost and Found items will be displayed by the front gate every Friday, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm, starting this Friday, November 12th. We have also added a section to our What’s Up Cobras entitled: Lost and Found. Please make sure you check the items found last week. If they are yours, please stop by the Director’s Office to claim them.
Uniform Update:
Starting from November 1st, the Uniform supplier is at school Tuesdays from 8:30 am to 10:30 am and Thursdays from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm for more orders and exchanges
Art Cantine Services:
For those parents whose children have been using Art Cantine Services and who have not paid yet for this service, please do so asap as Art Cantine will not be serving them, starting Wednesday, November 10th.
For those who would like to use Art Cantine service for the year, please make sure you settle your payment no later than the 25th of each month so that adequate service can be provided to your child/ children. Art Cantine hours are from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday.
Thank you PTC Members:
Last Wednesday, the PTC members held their elections and new members joined. Attendance was quite considerable and the dynamics were great. Make sure you get more updates about the PTC Elections at the PTC section below. We must all thank the PTC for a wonderful Halloween Celebration last week.
Condolences:
Condolences to Mr. Zouhair Abdelhadi, father of Khadija, Salma and Youssef, and to Mr. Zouhair Larbi, father of Yousra for the loss of their father and the children's grandfather.
Condolences also go to Mrs. Nawal El Moutawakil for the loss of her mother and to Cathy Huey, our Special Learning Support teacher for the loss of her mother.
Saturday, November 13th, the World celebrates World Kindness Day. Just remember: “Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough.” Franklin D Roosevelt
and:
“Three things in human life are important: the first is to be kind; the second is to be kind; and the third is to be kind.” Henry James
Sincerely,
John Randolph
School Director
Dear members of the CAS Community,
We hope that you and your families are in good health and in good spirits.
We are pleased to inform you that the transition process between the outgoing and new Board of Governors is now complete, after the transition meeting on October 26th. On behalf of the community, we express our sincere gratitude to the outgoing Board members, who have served the school with great dedication for the past three years.
In addition, we thank the numerous community members who applied to serve on the Advisory Committees. On October 26th, we welcomed a group of highly qualified and deeply committed parents and faculty as members of the newly formed committees. We look forward to working with them on the school's continued success.
Finally, we remind you that you are invited to our first Town Hall Meeting on Tuesday, November 16th at 18h30. We hope that many of you will join us. Please confirm your attendance and submit governance and board-related questions on the following link: https://forms.gle/MS31YvAKdy3GjhD38
We look forward to meeting you soon.
Sincerely,
Omar Laafoura
President
Board of Governors
Before I get to Lower School announcements, I'd like to wish Mrs. Laven (G6) well wishes and thank her for her service to the CAS community. Due to health issues, Mrs. Laven must return to Canada. Ms. Mackenzie Poelker will join G6 as the Humanities teacher.
Things are moving right along in the Lower School! I'm looking forward to the virtual MAP Parent Information Session on Monday and Parent Teacher Conferences on Wednesday. You should have received a separate communication about these events.
Parents, please take note...Several parents have voiced concern about the Netflix show, Squid Games. Schools are reporting children are acting out scenes from this show, which are violent. Please monitor what your child watches and have conversations about the difference between TV (fiction) and real life (reality). We have not had any Squid Game incidents on campus so this serves as a preventative warning.
What I am seeing is many behavioral and social-emotional issues among students, likely a result of the trauma we faced from the Covid crisis. Please continue talking to your child about school, their feelings, being kind, and making good choices when faced with conflict and challenges.

IB TRAINING FOR STUDENTS AND PARENTS:
On October 25th, the IB organization celebrated 53 years of existence, and for 35 of them, we have been one of their partners.
The same week, we had an "IB Day" in school. Students and parents attended virtually four sessions organized in collaboration with Lanterna Education. Grade 10 students enjoyed a short introduction to the IB followed by highlights from the courses. The presentation showed how the IB could be a fantastic experience and provided advice to prevent burnout and manage time successfully. Grade 11 students learned seven tips on how to succeed, detailed guidance on how to organize their time throughout the IB to work smart, not hard, and stay healthy and balanced. Grade 12 students discussed procrastination, revision pacing, educational apps, and other top tactics surrounding mocks and final exams. They received advice on pushing through with the last of the coursework deadlines and staying ahead during an academically challenging year. The final session, dedicated to the parents of our IB students, addressed how to support their children through the IB. The presentation gave parents insight into the overall structure of the Diploma program, discusses when periods of high stress are likely to be, and offers advice on how best to manage the increased workload as a family. Parents learned a set of practical tips ranging from planning methods to revision techniques.
More updates on the IB program at CAS are detailed in IB - Where we are.
For any questions related to the IB program, contact the IB Coordinator, Ms. Alina Zamfirescu, at azamfirescu@cas.ac.ma.
November is a month for compassion, peacemaking, and friendship! World Kindness Day is on the 13th. The Day for Tolerance is on the 16th. Universal Children's Day is the 20th. And don't forget US Thanksgiving on November 25th!

Another successful organization of the antigenic test performed Monday, November 1st. Students are feeling more comfortable with the process of specimen taking, especially noticed among preschoolers, they are becoming more familiar with nasal swabbing and with laboratory teams that are highly trained and efficient.
The good news, all test results came back negative. We will continue raising students and staff awareness of the importance of respecting measures and health guidelines such as early detection of illness and knowledge symptoms relatable to the current pandemic, also emphasizing hand hygiene, respecting distanciation and wearing masks.
All our effort is geared toward providing a safe environment for our CAS community.
