Dear Community Members,
Thank you for following our Covid-19 update that we have been sending via our Social Media accounts throughout this pandemic period. Covid-19 is indeed a severe test to our ability to act but not react; to accept the challenges, not collapse under their pressures, to make adequate plans, not to take compromising decisions, because this horrendous disease is uncompromising. We as educators, and parents must lead by example, with resilience, open-mindedness and patience, while assuming our moral duties towards our community fellows. We have been closely monitoring, isolating and reporting any positive Covid-19 case, even tracing it back to its origin with the purpose to limit its spread, while maintaining the confidential aspect of the matter. In this regard, “Thank You,” to all the parents and staff members who have been extremely diligent by informing the school straight away about any spread of Covid-19 amongst our members, putting the well-being of all above any other consideration. We appreciate the commitment!
Our blended system of remote and face-to-face learning seems to be going well, with more and more interactions with students. Speaking of interactions, I had the pleasure to do a Puppet Show to our Pre-Schoolers today. These Face-To-Face encounters are important, especially for our younger CAS students with only one message to convey; we will always find a way to teach with purpose and fun to reach greater conclusions. By the way, the enthusiasm of our students was overwhelming!
The use of Social Media: As we prepare for some great events, it is our custom and duty to ask parents if they will extend to us the right to use their children’s photographs and videos for the purpose to share, promote and illustrate who we are and what we are. If you have any issues with this, please send us an email to let us know that you would rather not have your child’s photograph on our Social Media pages.
Grade 6 Graduation: We are most fortunate to still be able to celebrate some amazing performances. At the end of June, we celebrated a modified Seniors’ Graduation Ceremony in the time of Corona. Real soon, we will offer our Grade 7 students their Sixth Grade Graduation Ceremony with the participation of a distinguished guest speaker. All the precautionary measures will be in place and more details will be shared real soon.
Winter Break: As approved by the Board of Directors, we are extending our Winter Break to allow our staff, especially the Foreign hire ones, to go back home and spend Christmas with their respective families. These staff members have been stuck in Morocco for almost a year now due to Covid and its travel restrictions. They are thankful to our Board of Directors for this kind gesture as we celebrate today World Kindness Day.
Condolences: We have recently learnt that Mr. Chiu, a CAS long time friend, a CAS former parent and owner of the amazing restaurant, Golden China, passed away last month in Taiwan. We pay our sincerest condolences to his children , more particularly his son Nien Nien a CAS graduate.
Last but not least: I encourage you to read the regular messages from our principals and the different members of our CAS Staff. We always have news for you.
Enjoy reading us and keep safe !
John J. Randolph
Since we started school this year, we have had 23 and 8 positive cases among our students and staff consecutively. They occurred at separate dates most of the students were asymptomatic and each fulfilled their quarantine period and are already back among us. We abide by the guidelines local authorities ask us to follow to keep our population safe and out of danger.
I would like to briefly reiterate our set procedures in face of Covid-19:
Step 1: The parent or member of staff informs the school Nurse
Step 2: The nurse informs the divisional principals
Step 3: Parents in the cohort group are informed and the group itself is sent home for quarantine with a letter from the School Director.
Step 4: The infected student will be admitted to class after quarantine pending a negative Covid-19 test result.

Dear Students and Families,
I hope that this email finds you well.
As we approach the end of Trimester 1, which is December 1st, I encourage you to check Schoology for your child's performance in different subjects. Students are taking their final tests and assignments until the end of November.
MAP testing will take place between November 30th and December 12th. This year, the MAP Testing will be administered online. And here are some reminders why we take the MAP testing:
MAP is used in over 1,000 international schools from 145 countries. This allows us to look at how students at CAS compare to students in the U.S. and around the world.
If a student moves to another school or country, MAP scores are often used in admissions decisions.
The results help guide instruction based on students' strengths and weaknesses.
CAS Students WILL:
Take this test seriously, show their best effort and use time wisely.
Respect and follow all directions.
Reminder of Upper School Rotation for week 11:
Please refer to the schedule below
Independence Day, also known as fête de l'indépendance, is a public holiday in the Kingdom of Morocco, celebrated on November 18th each year. It is Morocco's National Day and commemorates Moroccan independence on the date King Mohammed V returned from exile in 1955

It remains a wonderful sight to see LS students on campus, albeit every other day!
During the week of November 16-20, your Lower School child(ren) will take tests called Measures of Academic Progress (MAP). We give students MAP tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year (typically) in the areas of Reading, Language and Mathematics. Due to various factors related to Covid, this fall we will administer the Reading and Math ONLY. Students in Grades 3-6 will take the tests on their school-issued Chromebook that they must bring to school with them daily. Students in Grade 2 will take the tests on a school-provided iPad.
MAP is used in over 1,000 international schools in 145 countries as well as in most public schools in the United States. The test allows us to see how CAS students compare to students in both the U.S. and around the world. Additionally, if a student moves to another country, MAP scores are recognized and transferable in many other schools. As well, the tests can serve as one component in admissions decisions.
MAP tests are linked to the CAS curriculum through content standards and benchmarks in all grade levels. The MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Your child will spend approximately three hours over two school days completing these tests.
Students do not prepare for the MAP tests, nor are the results used for grading purposes. Teachers will use the results to design instruction tailored to students’ abilities and needs. Students will use the results of the fall tests to set academic goals for themselves for the rest of the school year. Parents will receive a report showing your child’s growth, bearing in mind MAP results are a snapshot of one indicator of student growth.
You can help your child perform optimally by:
Talking about the tests and encouraging his/her best effort-including NOT rushing through the test.
Making sure your child is well-rested and has a good breakfast the days of the tests.
For more information on resources for parents, download the Family Toolkit at: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/family-toolkit/
We are running multiple test schedules and systems so if you received communication but are confused, please contact your child's teacher or the LS Principal's Assistant, Imane Elkadiri, for clarification.

The International Baccalaureate organization strives to offer rigorous educational programs for schools all over the world. To ensure that the standards and practices are widely respected, all IB World Schools are evaluated every five years.
This school year, Casablanca American School enters the evaluation process. Teachers, students, parents, and school leaders will collaborate to reflect and analyze the Diploma Programme's implementation in school and decide over future improvement steps. Completing the self-study that needs to be submitted to IB before October 2021 started this week with a first all-teaching staff meeting. The meeting focus was on reflection on the curriculum and its alignment to the IB organization requirements.
The registration for the May 2021 IB session of exams is now completed. All our seniors are registered for the exams. We wish them to finalize their Extended essay, TOK Essay and Presentation, and all their Internal Assessments in time and to the best standards. We also wish them to have a successful external examination session that will bring them the desired Diplomas and Certificates.

The Upper and Lower School Libraries in total have about 30,000 print books available for check out. These books are mostly in the English language, but we also have a dedicated corner of each library for French and Arabic books. The Upper School Library has purchased over 270 English books and over 80 foreign language books this year, to add to their already extensive collection. While the lower school Library has purchased 339 new English books, and 265 Foreign Language(Arabic/French) books this scholastic year. The Upper school library's collection ranges between adult fiction, graphic, young adult, biography, nonfiction and a reference section placed over two levels of space. Like today’s most contemporary libraries, the CAS library’s new technological infrastructure allows users to search everything within CAS’ online resources and subscriptions on and off campus, ensuring all materials can be accessed anytime and anywhere through our online website. We provide our students and parents the opportunity to check out books for a period of two weeks, from either libraries, as long as they create an account with us.
On October 25th, the CAS' Lion's Club gathered donations and distributed them to a local orphanage!
A walk to remember ! Our 3 seniors continue their journey with Les Amis du Rubans Rose. They had the honor of joining these strong women last Saturday on their weekly walk. A moment to pause and reflect on what they face daily. They all wore the pink masks designed by our students and produced by @kmama.ma. Stay tuned for more coming up in December!
