A two-day training on various Information and Communication Technology (ICT) applications/software was spearheaded by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority – Regional Office 9 in coordination with the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) on September 19-20, 2017 at the Dipolog School of Fisheries in Olingan, Dipolog City.

Forty (40) employees coming from the different provincial offices, training centers and TESDA Technology Institutions in Region 9 completed the 2-day training workshop.

Ms. Jocelyn C. Wee, Chief of the Regional Finance and Administrative Services Division disclosed that in the Capability Assessment conducted in 2016 as part Knowledge Management Training, one of the identified priority capability gaps needed for the performance of the functions of the different operating units was to learn new useful tools, technologies and techniques in one’s area of professional practice.

Specifically, the need was to learn different information and communication technologies (ICT) in the workplace – MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Powerpoint. While ICT has become an integral part of everyday office functions, there were still employees who were not able to keep up with its rapid change. Regular updating has become an indispensable intervention to allow each employee to improve efficiency by speeding up the work flow process.

Another important concern was communication via technology, e.g. email, google mail, that requires every employee to be very familiar with. Utilizing Google applications for collaboration allows every employee to have real-time access to up-to-date information anytime and anywhere in any platform. Thus, learning its different features and key capabilities (Gmail, Calendar, Drive, Hangouts, Classroom, Sites and Google+) will also allow employees to work faster, get information in an instant.

The management believes that the ability to use technology is an essential skill in today’s workplace to achieve the organization’s goals and objectives. –end (Mary Jane R. Amrado, AOV/HRMO)
