TESDA IX hosts first Forum on the Level 5 of the Philippine Qualifications Framework

TESDA IX, in collaboration with the TESDA Mindanao Regional Offices, organized the first ever Forum on the Level 5 of the Philippine Qualifications Framework which was held at the Celebrity Hall, Grand Astoria Hotel, Zamboanga City last July 15, 2015.

Invited guests included the different leaders and stakeholders from both the basic and higher education and technical-vocational education sectors in Region IX.

Also present for the occasion were the TESDA IX Provincial Directors, Division Chiefs and staff and the three TESDA Regional Directors from the different regions in Mindanao: TESDA X Regional Director Edgar A. Sales, TESDA XII Regional Director Zeus P. Ampuyas and TESDA XI Regional Director Gaspar S. Gayona, who also served as the resource speaker for the forum.

RD Gayona’s forum presentation featured definitions of Technical Education and Training, Technicians and Technologists. He also presented the Focus of Competence-based Technical and Vocational Programs and the Important Characteristics of Competency-based Education and Training. The presentation also highlighted the Two Models of Curriculum Development and Concepts, the different theories and concepts in education and learning.

His comprehensive discussion on the different levels of the Philippine Qualifications Framework and different Curriculum Maps for Diploma programs in Mechanical Technology, Hotel and Restaurant Technology, Agricultural Engineering Technology, Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation and Mechatronics Technology, Welding Technology, Heating Ventilating and Air Conditioning Refrigeration Technology, Civil Technology, and Automotive Technology, caught the interest of those in attendance.

But most importantly, the forum was a needed avenue in discussing the impact of the Department of Education’s K-12 program implementation to the basic and higher education and technical-vocational education sectors and the integration of tech-voc programs in grades 11 and 12.
