The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority in Region 9 conducted a Regional Gender and Development (RGAD) Assembly and Gender and Analysis (GA) Training for all the GAD Focal Person in the different operating units on September 26-29, 2017 at the Dipolog School of Fisheries in Olingan, Dipolog City.

The Mid-Year Assembly held on the first day was designed to assess the implementation of the 2017 GAD Plan and Budget in all the operating units. This helped GFPS members and GAD Focal Persons measure gains and successes and identify areas of strengths and pointers for development.

The training on Gender Analysis was handled by Ms. Joenna Tabu, GAD Focal at the TESDA Women Center. She started the training with a session on GAD Orientation and Gender Sensitivity where she presented basic GAD concepts and principles including the GAD mandates of TESDA.

She presented key concepts of Gender Analysis (GA) and the steps in doing GA. She presented cases which allowed participants to analyze programs using Sex-Disaggregated Data (SDD), using Gender Equality and Women Empowerment (GEWEF) and the Harmonized GAD Guidelines (HGDG).

The GFPS regularly holds meetings and conferences to discuss GAD policies, programs and projects. Its creation is in pursuance to Republic Act 9710 otherwise known as the Magna Carta of Women (MCW). The GFPS ensures the adoption of gender mainstreaming as the agency’s institutional mechanism to promote and fulfill women’s rights and eliminate gender discrimination in the agency. (Mary Jane R.
