TESDA IX, continuing in its thrust for the development of the Level 5 Program in the Philippine Qualifications Framework (PQF), and in coordination with Mindanao Technical-Vocational Association, Inc. (MinTVET) and Region IX Association of TVET Institutions (RATVETI), held a two-day training workshop on the Curriculum Development for TVET Level 5 Diploma Programs at Lantaka Hotel last October 23-24, 2015.

TESDA XI Regional Director Gaspar S. Gayona was the resource speaker for the training workshop. The participants consisted of the different TVET Training Institutes from the private and public sectors in Region IX.

In his welcome message RD Macapili gave a presentation on the overview of the PQF, Pathways to learning, Alignment to Learning Outcomes, the 8-Level Qualifications Descriptors, Governance of PQF and its legal basis. He also discussed comparisons of ASEAN Qualifications Frameworks from other countries.

RD Gayona in his opening statements emphasized the training of TVET teachers to develop teaching strategies and to align curriculum to existing/needed jobs so that TVET Institutions may continue serving the TVET sector. He also urged the institutions to “sit down with industry to learn their needs,” while preparing for the coming ASEAN Integration.

During the workshop the participants were grouped into the different TVET sectors and were tasked to craft and present their own Program Learning Outcomes and Institutional Mission and Vision. Director Gayona scrutinized each group’s presentation and provided the needed changes to come up with presentable outputs.
