TESDA IX holds First Regional TVET Forum

TESDA IX in coordination with the Region IX Association of TVET Institutions (RATVETI), held the first Regional TVET Forum at the Casa Mea Hotel & Restaurant in Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay on February 17, 2015.

Over 192 Administrators and Heads from the academe and the TESDA Technology Institutes and Technical-Vocational Institutions from Zamboanga Sibugay, Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur and Zamboanga City were present for the momentous occasion to discuss the policies, direction, strategies and targets by TESDA IX for FY 2015.

The program began with the acknowledgement of guests and participants by Senior TESD Specialist Nelly H. Macapili. The event was highlighted by the attendance of the Municipal Mayor of Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay, Hon. Eldwin M. Alibutdan who gave a heartfelt welcome message to those in attendance. After delivering his inspirational message, Mayor Alibutdan then gave a comprehensive presentation of the role of the LGUs in Technical Education & Skills Development. In his presentation, he emphasized that the LGUs that are mindful and prioritizes the welfare of the people are the ones who are sincere in carrying out their governmental functions. Furthermore he stressed that LGUs are mandated by law to address the education needs of its constituents in relation to the rising importance of technical-vocational education to further address the need for skilled labor, citing as an example the establishment of the Ipil Technology Training Center (ITTC).

After his presentation, Mayor Alibutdan took part in a short Open Forum where he discussed poverty as the root cause of society’s problems including security and the problem of criminality.

The program then continued with the TESDA IX Regional Director Lorenzo G. Macapili providing highlights of TESDA’s Policies and Directions for FY 2015 wherein he discussed the organizational outcomes, key strategies, performance indicators, locally-funded projects and other priority programs/projects for the coming year.

The program proceeded with the ROD Chief Engr. Alan T. Bacatan presenting TESDA IX TVET Situation, Targets and Challenges. After which the program closed with RATVETI Commitments presented by RATVETI President Fr. Nathaniel L. Denlaoso and a Forwarding Message by ZSTVIA President Edgar N. Alegre.
