TESDA-9 kicks-off 24th Anniversary with Simultaneous Tree Planting

23 August 2018 -- A massive tree planting activity marked the kick-off of the 24th Anniversary of the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) in Region IX, wherein its employees together with the different Technical Vocational Institutions (TVIs) in Zamboanga Peninsula conducted a region-wide simultaneous tree-planting activity on 22 August 2018, in Mampang Zamboanga City; Kabasalan Institute of Technology (KIT) in Kabasalan Zamboanga Sibugay; New Eco Park in Buenavista, Pagadian City and in Dipolog School of Fisheries (DSF) in Olingan, Dipolog City.
TESDA-9 Regional Director Efren Pinol said that the activity aims to instill the spirit of environmental stewardship among TESDA employees and TVIs in support of the TESDA green program. “It is our commitment to help mitigate solutions on climate change. We have to promote a healthier ecosystem by encouraging ourselves to plant trees for the preservation, protection and conservation of the environment.”
In Dipolog City, over 2,000 bakhaw propagules were planted in the DSF fishpond area jointly conducted by the TESDA Zamboanga Del Norte Provincial Office and DSF. Meanwhile, in Pagadian City, a total of 190 narra seedlings were planted at the New Eco Park spearheaded by the TESDA Zamboanga Del Sur Provincial Office. On the other hand, a total of 125 narra seedlings and 200 bakhaw propagules were planted in Mampang, Zamboanga City. Likewise, around 150 seedlings of narra and 62 variety of fruit trees were planted at the Kabasalan Institute of Technology by its faculty and staff together with the personnel from TESDA Zamboanga Sibugay.
The tree planting activity is just one of the many activities lined-up in celebration of the TESDA Anniversary. Other activities include skills training for employees and women of nearby barangays, free competency assessment, orientation on occupational safety and health, TESDAns Got Talent, thanksgiving mass, worship celebration, sports festival and traditional pinoy games among TESDA-9 employees and a World Café of Opportunities Job Fair for jobseekers and TESDA Alumni to be held on August 26 & 27, 2018 at the KCC Mall de Zamboanga. -End (Mary Jane R.
