TESDA IX Distributes STEP Tool Kits in Zamboanga City

TESDA Region IX recently distributed tool kits of the Special Training for Employment Program (STEP) to beneficiaries from the different barangays in Zamboanga City last April 6 to 17, 2015.

Eleven barangays from the two districts of Zamboanga City were chosen as designated areas for the conduct of the training program.

For District I under Congressman Celso L. Lobregat, barangays San Roque, Baliwasan, Calarian, Canelar, Tumaga and Pasonanca were the selected training areas. For District II under Congresswoman Lilia M. Nuno, barangays Mercedes, Boalan, Guiwan, Lumbangan and Talon-talon were selected as training areas.

The training qualifications chosen by both districts include Install Wiring Devices/Install Lighting Systems (Leading to Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II), Maintain and Repair Electronically-controlled Domestic Apppliances (Consumer Electronics Servicing NC II), Perform Body Massage (Beauty Care NC II), Perform Facial Make-up (Beauty Care NC II), Perform Manicure and Pedicure (Beauty Care NC II), Perform Single Unit Plumbing Installation and Repair Maintenance Works (Plumbing NC II), Plaster Concrete Masonry Surface (Masonry NC II), Process Food by Salting, Curing and Smoking (Food Processing NC II), Service and Maintain Transport Airconditioning Unit (Transport RAC Servicing NC II), Shielded Metal Arc Welding NC I and Test and Repair Wiring/Lighting System Servicing (Automotive Servicing NC I).

The distribution of the tools was supervised by TESDA IX Regional Director Lorenzo G. Macapili, Regional Training Center Training Head Geronimo Bandico, OIC-Supply Officer Bedeline Macias, TESD Specialist II Gregorio Flores, STEP Coordinator Crisanta Ambalit and TESDA Staff.

The Special Training for Employment Program is a community-based specialty training program designed to address the specific skills needs of the communities and promote employment, particularly through entrepreneurial, self-employment and service-oriented activities. Training programs are generally short- term and use the cluster of competencies prescribed in the Training Regulations promulgated by TESDA.
