A 7-day Trek to Milam Glacier from Chillamdhar-Munsiary in Uttarakhand ... via the new High-level route, created after 2013 floods

A waterfall ahead ... seen from our Share-Jeep on the Jauljibi-Madkot road ... on way to Munsiary

Day-0 [19-Oct 2016]

At Munsiary (2290M) for Permits

We took an early morning share-jeep from Dharchula and reached Munsiary around 11:30AM via the Jauljibi-Madkot Road.

Met Pandey-ji at his GH directly and he rushed us to get our Application Letter, SDM-form and Photo-ID attachments etc. ready, within 10 minutes ... and we ran across the Taxi-Stand Chowk to SDM's office for his signature. Pandey-ji was right! .. no sooner had we managed to get the SDM's signature on our Application, he left on a tour, in his convoy! We made it in the nick of time!! We had the ILP now for Milam & NDEast-BC Trek!

We took a dbl-room in Pandey Lodge at Rs 1500 (!) .. It was high Durga-Pujo season in Munsiary and the place crawling with hundreds of Bengali Tourists ... and all the hotels were full. With Pandey-ji's contact we booked a Porter, Gopal Ram, to carry my bag (at Rs 650/- per day + Food). Manz and Prem were going to carry their own back-packs.

Reference: My Porter-Guide - Gopal Ram - is from Munsiary. He took good care of us during the entire Milam trek. We were happy with his service. He knows the Milam Route pretty well. His Cell No is: +91 73518-44886

It was a cloudy day in Munsiary. We could not see Panchachuli the whole day. Even though our room had a large window facing the valley, where we should have seen them. The Pic below was taken at dawn, on the day I was leaving Munsiary (at end of trip):
