This page describes Trek Day-6 : Junbesi > Ringmo > Traksindu-La > Nunthala

The yellow spire of Junbesi Gompa as we leave.... the Welcome Sign is meant perhaps for those coming from Nunthala!

At 10:00AM view from Khurtang - from here we were to get our first view of Everest, Thamserku, Kantega etc. but it was too cloudy to see anything! My bad luck!!

At 12:25PM the big suspension bridge on Ringmo Khola (at 2510M)

Day-6 -- 30th Sept 2007: Junbesi to Nunthala (a long trek day)

We started trek from Junbesi at 7:30 AM and went past Junebesi Gompa (pic left) and climbed down the stone steps to the river Junbesi Khola ... crossed it over a bridge and climbed back gradually up the mountain side on the opposite side. Across the valley, we could see the trail path that we used yesterday to descend into Junbesi. The picture (below) of Junbesi after about 30 mins of trekking.

Junbesi, a last look ... as we climb the ridge on other side of river

This is an interesting view (at 9:00AM) of Lamjura-La and the descending trail path and the trail on the opposite ridge (pic center), where we turned left to see Junbesi for first time (now hidden to the right of the pic in the valley). Click image to enlarge.

Ringmo Khola from the susension bridge

A short steep & climb from bridge (of 45 Mins) and we are at Ringmo Chorten with the signpost showing the trail junction here

View of the steep climb ahead to Traksindu-La ... seen from Ringmo.

An archway marking the top of Trakshindu-La pass .... we crossed this point at 3:00PM

Past the Arch on eastern side ... some houses and a kid who lives there

Traskshindu Monastry at 2960M

Crossing stream on bridge at 5-20PM

After 10 mins descent from Traksindu-La (3071M) ... we passed this Monastry of Traksindu (2960M) ... an example of Sherpa Monastic architecture founded by Tokten Shultrim a monk from Tengboche.

Mountain View Lodge ... just below Trakshindu Monastry built by a famous Sherpa .. Babu Chiri Sherpa

Mountain View Lodge was built by Babu Chiri Sherpa (died on Everest in april 2005) who had climbed Everest 10 times, spent 21 hours on the summit and holds speed record for fastest climb from base camp to Everest Summit. The trail goes a long way down further thru conifir and rhodendron forests to cross a stream aand then finally reaches Nhuntala (at 2220M). By the time we reached Shangrila Guest House at 6:00PM, it was already dark.

At last we entered Shangrila-GH at Nunthala at 6-00PM .... when it was already pretty dark outside. I was too tired and just paused to take a picture of this entrance, before crashing inside.

Shangrila GH turned out to be a nice looking GH .... in the morning sunshine .... next day.
