Silchar to Agartala ... by a day-train Agartala Passenger

Silchar Railway Station

7th December 2011: We checked out of Borail Hotel after breakfast at 9AM and took an Auto to Silchar Railway Station. We had booked CC seats on the Agartala Passenger, Dep 10:45AM but actually left at 11:45AM with no reasons for delay. Again a very slow MG train. At least this one was named a 'passenger' train and not express like Borak Valley.

We preferred these slower day-trains to see the sights on the way. Which we got, amply, as we got a great feel for the local terrain, stations and population at a speed of 15KMPH. We passed Karimganj, the town close to Bangaldesh with border crossings, around 2:00PM

Reach Dharmanagar at 5:30PM after its dark!

Ideally, we should have got off at Dharmanagar stayed the night in a hotel, seen the Unakoti Rock Monoliths in the morning and then gone on to Agartala by road, from here. But that was all 'learnings' we got next day, at Agartala.

Our train reached Agartala 2 hours late at 10:45PM. It was pretty cool here (around 15*C) but not as cold as Kohima's 6*C . We took a Maruti-van Taxi to Ginger Hotel and checked in late at 11:30PM. Ginger Hotel room and facilities were top class and we were happy we had pre-booked this for 4 nights.
