2 Fatehpur

Fatehpur - the 1st town in Shekawati area that I visited; to see painted Havelis

19-November-2012: Out of Sikar Hotel at 9 AM and started out to Fatehpur via Laxmangarh; the plan was to see the Havelis in Fatehpur and then move on to Mandawa for night halt.

By 10:30AM reached Fatehpur a small town establised by Muslim Nawabs in 1451. The town was taken over by Shekawati Rajputs in 18th cent. Leading business houses and families of that community set up their big Havelis here, vividly painted with superb motifs and colorful facades often depicting stories from Krishna leela and Ramayana. I parked my car in one of the by-lanes and walked around to several Havelis. There were many foreigners in town carrying their DSLRs with heavy zoom lenses.
