2 Belur

Belur (earlier known as Velapuri), near Hassan, in Southern Karanataka, was the first capital of Hoysalas. Vishnuvardhana (AD 1108-1152) started this temple popularly known as Chennakeshava Temple in AD 1116; but it was worked on for another 100 years. It was built to celebrate Hoysalas victory over the Cholas.

I visited this temple on the afternoon of 20th April 2008 by taking a public bus ride to Belur from Chikmagalur. Some pictures taken in the Temple's compound and inside the temple are displayed below:
