L-л-n from a letter of the khazar King Joseph (на ПРОЗА.РУ)

A city in the North Caucasus mentioned in a letter from King Joseph of Khazaria. The existence of this city can be attributed to the end of the 9th century.

In Hudud al Alam, there is also a mention of this city with the same name, which has no vowels. It seems that the source of information about this city and the King Joseph, and the author of Hudud-al-Alam, was the same.

In both lists, the city of L-k-n is among the other cities that historians were able to land on any settlement. This was Hamidj, Balandjer, Baida, Savgar, Htig, Lkn, Sur, Masmuda. All these are cities in the country of the khazars, all with strong walls, rich.

It is believed that the list of these khazar cities was compiled at the end of the 9th century, mostly cities, but rather settlements of the North Caucasus. They can only be localized approximately.

However, King Joseph would hardly have told his Spanish Jew about simple settlements, so we can assume that the city of L-k-n could represent an ancient large settlement of the Khaganate, which by the standards of a thousand years ago could be attributed to cities.
